| Laughing my ass of at "we shook some rugs and then reef-up", whatever the fuck that means. It's "we took some drugs and then we fucked" | |

I wonder if this is meant ironically? Got to love the Bowie-style vocals denouncing space rock. |

This is completely against everything that was written above, but it reminds me of getting psychoanalyzed as a kid. It's the exact same emotional response, for me. But it's definitely about heroine. |

Uneasy feeling of looking at oneself and not liking what one sees. Makes me wonder about the space between who I am and how I present myself. |

The lyrics evoke an image of childhood. Specifically, childhood at bedtime... the sleeplessness of youth when forced to go to bed early. It's the parents' voice that we hear, and we are meant to listen to them as their child. Obviously, these parents are a little sinister. They say things that your parents probably didn't: "death to all who stand in your way". Thom is seeing a bit of oppression in the way parents treat their children in the way that they regulate their child's sleep patterns (occasionally, and probably in this case, they use drugs like melatonin). For me, it's about fanaticism. Specifically, the blind fanaticism of a parent's love for a child. Thom sees something sinister in this relationship. (Personally, I agree with him. Parents often do fucked up things for a child's "own good.") |
