The meaning of this song isn't to difficult to discern. I think the Flobots tend toward being rather "in your face" and blatant in their messages. I can't say that I've read everyone's interpretation but I think monkeydo, lullabye, and most others have the right idea. Put plainly, it's about corruption. It's about how even the purest and most idealistic of human intentions can become cruel and hedonistic. However I don't think we should intellectualize this message too much as it's really very simple and anyone can see it. That's what makes it powerful. |
