Go Radio – Forever My Father Lyrics 15 years ago
My dad just got diagnosed with having basically no immune system (like a person on chemo.) I'm only 20 and he's already 61, I've got a feeling this songs gonna stick by my side for a while. This is what I think a real artist does: create a piece that anyone can relate to and interpret on their own terms. Jason Lancaster is an incredible musician, and an inspirational person.

Paramore – Decoy Lyrics 16 years ago
One of my favorite Paramore songs! The note Hayley hits in the end is insane!! I think it is about a person who was involved in a relationship in which they loved some one whole heartedly, but came to find out that they were just the person's "decoy" to get them what they actually wanted. Their final parting may have even involved the significant other stating "I'd do it over again" and bluntly showing that they "aren't sorry at all."

The aspect that makes this song unique is the satirical perspective. Great Song <3

Death Cab for Cutie – Meet Me on the Equinox Lyrics 16 years ago
I personally have no idea why people are saying that the lyrics to this song are inadequate! The use of the term "Equinox" as a metaphor for two completely opposite people finding level ground is incredible. Also, I've learned that simplified lyrics can be the most interesting at times:

"A window/
An open tomb/
The sun crawls across your bedroom/
A halo/
A waning moon/
Your last breath moving through you/"

Contradictory and mysterious.. different from earlier releases, but still awesome! Way to go Death Cab for Cutie :D

Panic! at the Disco – New Perspective Lyrics 16 years ago
"More to the point, I need to show
How much I can come and go
Other plans fell through
And put a heavy load on you
I know there's no more that need be said
When I'm inching through your bed
Take a look around instead and watch me go"

...never thought Panic would know how to say what I'm feeling.
They changed for the better, so happy this is what they've become
Really think the first songs and album were just to get into the industry...

Bright Eyes – Arienette Lyrics 16 years ago
What i find interesting is that he says "Or are you Arienette?" at the end of the song 'Sunrise, Sunset'. When he says that, I wonder what the whole concept of that song is? It gives a deeper meaning to Arienette. While he says she's just as real as you or me, sometimes I wonder if she is actually even a person. I don't think she is. 'Sunrise, Sunset' was inspired by the play 'The Fiddler On the Roof' (which has a song also called 'Sunrise, Sunset' in it.)

Since both the play's 'Sunrise, Sunset' and Conor's 'Sunrise, Sunset' have to do with time passing us by and meeting our fate with out even realizing it (which is bleakly seen as only old age and death)...

Does that make Time the real Arienette? Or maybe Fate? If you take it from that point of view Conor has had Arienette his whole life.

But in the end I really think Arienette is what ever you want her to be.. After all Arienette is extremely marionette, and puppets are made to resemble what ever, or who ever you want them to.

Beautiful idea Conor, even more beautiful song

Jack's Mannequin – At Full Speed Lyrics 16 years ago
The funny thing is, this is the only song released by Andrew that I had never heard until recently. I heard my boy friend playing this song and singing it, and I honestly thought he wrote it. Even before I showed him Andrew, they both had a similar writing and playing style. It was a shame when he told me he didn't write it though, I was going to tell him to make it be his new single! haha I should of known better. =P

The piano trills Andrew does right after the first and last "at full speed" are just gorgeous. He's amazing. <3

Jack's Mannequin – Annie, Use Your Telescope Lyrics 16 years ago
Andrew has always been my favorite musician and one of my heros. A vast majority of his songs are filled with lyrics that reference the sky and the stars. First in formost, he called this song the "baby" of his record, probably in respects to the fact that it is dedicated to his wife: Kelly Anne.
It is possible that he makes references to his cancer, in saying that he will "make it home" (or become well again and be out of the hospital.) But I also think its more than that. It seems that it is really a response to her missing him terribly while he is on tour; it's his way of saying "I will make it home to you no matter what."
With that being said, it could be assumed that he and Kelly Anne looked at the stars through a telescope, and in doing that, when ever she looks through a telescope she can see the same stars he sees while he is away, and think of their time together.

Paramore – When It Rains Lyrics 17 years ago
Haley Williams had definitely made a place next two my other inspirations: Andrew McMahon, Conor Oberst, and Rivers Cuomo. My goal is to be just as good a vocalist (if not better than) as Haley. Haha, you gotta aim somewhere right? (I don't know if it will happen though >.<)

Jack's Mannequin – Swim Lyrics 17 years ago
My boyfriend who is an aspiring musician has recently been so sick that he cannot even walk. The doctors don't know what is wrong with him, but they are doing all kinds of blood work. Andrew McMahon is his hero, and initially, this song was his favorite because it made him think about his life, and how many things he has over come. But since he's been sick, it has taken on an all encompassing meaning. The other day I heard him listening to this song on his ipod, on repeat. I think it's amazing how one person can inspire an individual so much. I wish I could thank Andrew McMahon for writing this song...it's incredible.

Jack's Mannequin – MFEO: Part 1: Made for Each Other/Part 2: You Can Breathe Lyrics 17 years ago
Andrew McMahon is the hero of both my boyfriend and me. It was amazing seeing him live on november 23. =D this song is really special to me, especially since it reminds me so much of not only my boyfriend and me, but just my friends in general. But what was really awesome was being front row and seeing Andrew smile at me and my boyfriend kissing real quick when this song began. haha...

Augustana – Sweet and Low Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe that this song is dedicated to both his wife (or woman he is having a child with) and his soon to be born daughter. He is singing a majority of the verses and the chorus to his daughter because he is giving her advice that he has learned through experiencing the hardships life brings. He knows that "your eyes can be your enemy" because the eyes are the window to the soul. (i.e. one's true feelings.)

But when he says "I ain't givin' up quite yet, I've got too much to lose" He is directing that at himself, because he may have considered not being there for her as a father. However, he has realized that he needs her as much as she needs him.

In the chorus:

"Hold me down, sweet and low little girl
Hold me down, sweet and low and I will carry you home,
Hold me down, sweet and low little girl
Hold me down, and i'll carry you home,"

When he says "hold me down" he is reinforcing the idea that she is his stabalizer. Then, the act of carrying her is both physically symbolic of a loving father carrying his new born home, and metaphorically symbolic of him repaying her gift of stability by bringing her to a safe place: his arms and heart.

The second verse is directed at both his expecting wife/girlfriend and future daughter. When he says:
“The rain is gonna fall, the sun is gonna shine
The wind is gonna blow, the waters gonna rise”

He is singing to his naive and innocent daughter. He is further establishing that life may be what you want it to be at one second, but at the next moment it may be a “storm,” or completely chaotic and terrible.

The second half of that verse:
“She said, when that day comes look into my eyes
But no ones giving up quite yet, we've got too much to lose”

Is directed towards his expecting wife/girlfriend. It sounds like she is asking him to tell her that he will stay with her through this soon-to-happen pregnancy, and be there for her and the baby. And he is answering: “No one in their right mind would give this up because it is far too much too lose.”

The bridge is also directed to both the daughter and wife/girlfriend:

“And i'll carry you all the way
When you say you're fine
But you're still young and out of line”

He is claiming that he will be there to be a helping hand and protector to his daughter, and a disciplinarian because he knows what she will need to learn to be successful in life.

Finally, when he says:

“When all I need's to turn around
To make it last, to make it count,
I ain't gonna make the same mistakes
That put my mama in her grave
I don't wanna be alone”

He is promising himself and his significant other that he will change for her and this child, because he wants the happiness and fulfillment he is experiencing "to last." He has seen what a broken home can do to a person, like his mother, and does not want to end up being lost and alone (or even dead) like she is.

Awesome song.
