| na dude that a little ridiculous, you might be getting tired of their sound, but the critics agree theyre the best folk style band to come around in a while. they add a pop spin which might be annoying to you, sure. THIS SONG IS ABOUT purpose vs. individuality. its a pretty deep topic and the point of this song gets through very obviously in the second part. fleet foxes are doing good thing, they know what they are doing musically and as far as songwriting, theyve began singing as themselves rather characters theyve made up. theyre pretty complex on all sides of the spectrum so you should stop being such a purist and open yo mind nucca | |

id have to say i think the guy above me is right for the most part, but not quite.. what i get out of it is: people have been so detached from everything in life that really matters "i feel so broken hearted", also whitney touches on how new development and the rise of big business can have an effect on someone's heart "strip malls stare back so broken hearted" it seems like he puts us in a place of conformity, where your life isnt exciting and you have nothing to look really forward to "billboards read:'youll be dead this time next year'" at the chorus though, i feel like he gives his own advice on how to stay a happy, fulfilled individual "plant your skulls in the earth/grow bones trees to shield your grief" i get the image of someone doing just that with their head in the ground and their legs sticking straight out, like one of the shirts he's designed or something. basically, stay connected with the world and all the issues that truly matter, not the superficial ones. it may be frustrating to live in a bland, un-inspiring place, but keep your hopes up, and be an individual. |
