| Damien Rice – Sleep Don't Weep Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Damien Rice is incredible..he recognizes human pain in everyday life and incorporates it into his music..who else could do it so beautifully | |
| Anathallo – Italo Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I also remember him mentioning that this song was about an experience they had in Guatemala It also makes sense too. I'm Guatemalan and guatemala is divided up into zones "In the second zone of the city, a baby born in the nightclub mold where goons dry heave the factory glue all crust-lipped and blood nose" it is probably refering to the second zone in Guatemala city which i think is a pretty bad part of town. it also just reminds me of factories and industry like in chicago and factories. i live in chicago so maybe thats why |

| Sufjan Stevens – What Child Is This Anyway? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
this is missing my favorite verse of the song Why lies He in such mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear, for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce him through, The Cross be borne for me, for you; Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary! one of the most beautifulest verses of any Christmas Carol. this song celebrating the birth of Christ and yet offering salvation and beautiful redemption. THIS IS THE EPITOME OF CHRISTMAS AND TRUE CHRISTMAS CAROL, something christmas songs today know nothing about |

| Sufjan Stevens – Lo! How a Rose E're Blooming Lyrics | 16 years ago |

agreed. a 400 year old hymn that has much to teach other "christmas songs" |

| Sufjan Stevens – All the Trees of the Field Will Clap Their Hands Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can't help but think of a spanish song we used to sing a long time ago at church about trees clapping their hands everytime i see the title to this song. who knew that i would be making the connection from spanish worship to folk music. "Y los arboles del campo aplaudiran, los arboles del campo aplaudiran, los arboles del campo aplaudiran dando gloria al Señor!" the image of that verse is very weird. great song | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is the best song in the Illinois Album by far! theres nothing like listening to this on cloudy fall days. i wonder if people who don't live in Illinois get the full effect of this song. we always had casimir pulaski day off and it was awesome! furthermore i love how sufjan stevens sings about normal things that so many in middle class america can relate to. instead of dumb dreams of california or whatever. i have no desire to visit california. its my kind of music! | |
| Damien Rice – Sleep Don't Weep Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i really love this song and its nice to listen to on those long winter days. i think its about two lovers or husband and wife. i can imagine the wife crying on her bed because she had a really bad day and the husband comforting her and willing to do anything to make her feel better. "so do what you must do to find yourself wear another's shoe or paint my shelves" this is repeated throughout the song and the man and woman switch places. its such a great song of nothing but love and commitment between a pair of people. this is what i get out of it. and the soft piano jazz at the end is amazing. it definetly adds so much more. the scene probably takes place in the crazy rough city maybe. |

| Sufjan Stevens – The Upper Peninsula Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i've never been to to the UP but to me this song means what is probably seen in the UP but also all around america..the life of the lower middle class life that is prevalent. "I LIve in AmericA" is such a great line because America is this great land where you are supposed to be rich and prosperous but there are countless white americans who live like this. buying payless shoes, going to kmart, divorced, rebellious children. it sort of distorts the american dream into what it really is for those non immigrants. its not about extreme poverty but the the depression of the lower middle class white family. AMERICA! | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Head! (Restore! Rebuild! Reconsider!) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I Love this Song..such a great tribute to what once was a great city. "The Paris of the West" Detroit! who boomed during the industrial revolution...but later collapsed because of white flight and suburbanization. I love how Sufjan still has hope for detroir which is great city with so much history as oppose to the lame and boring suburbs | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Come On! Feel the Illinoise! (Part 1: The World's Columbian Exposition; Part 2: Carl Sandburg Visits Me in a Dream) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i love this song. especially hearing it on lake shore drive right by 63rd street where it takes place. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i love sufjan stevens..but i never liked this song. it is absolutely not his best song or its not catchy. i dont know why its so popular. i wished he would not have mentioned new york cus that takes glory from chicago.he could have done a better job | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Inaugural Pop Music for Jane Margaret Byrne Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is awesome..jane margret also stayed for a couple of weeks in cabrini green, a chicago housing project cus conditions were so bad there. i love sufjan's connection with community | |
| Damien Rice – Cold Water Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song means the love of God to me. how we our pretty messed up people and feel alone and desperate and depressed and yet He is near "don't you know i love YOu, and I always have" | |
| Half-Handed Cloud – Foot On The Brake Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
my favorite line is "Switch you car for a bus pass Or ride on the subway Either way you'll pass through the body of God No matter if you ride or if you trot " because its so true. the kingdom of God is not synonymous with the Church or with all things Christian. God is bigger and is found everywhere. he has established his kingdom and it is our duty to find it. God is everywhere even in the "sinful "city |

| Sufjan Stevens – Holy, Holy, Holy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i cried when i heard this. i didn't think this hymn could be so beautiful. I love hymns they are so deep. contemporary christian artists could learn a lot from sufjan | |
| Sufjan Stevens – To the Workers of the Rock River Valley Region, I Have an Idea Concerning Your Predicament Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i also live in the rock river valley,in rockford and my dad also got layed off years ago. when i hear it i think of the abondonded industrial factories in rockford and how the boom of the industrial revolution in rockford is gone. i love rockford though.its home and i wished sufjan would have made a whole song about it. it is the 3rd biggest city in Illinois | |

| Sufjan Stevens – Sister Winter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is probably not it but to me it was about how in the summer a a christian in the summer you are enriched and in fervor for God and with close friends like in camp and in missions but pathetically year after year the christian goes back to lonlienss, coldness, and hardness that comes with the winter.summer was breat..."but now my heart is returned to sister winter" | |
