at first i thought this was ur regular love song. looking at the lyrics again, i get a feeling that its about a father whos lost custody of his daughter for some reason. its clear that josephine is young, but the lyrics dont seem all that creepy. the tasting like sugar reference is a little weird, but it can easily be an innocent analogy. he says hes been bad and that hes lonely. this could be creepy too, but it could also mean that he lost custody. the paper bag line probably means hes lost everything, but will still try anything to make josephine happy. i still dont get a couple lines, though, like the two lines about cuts and how hes disconnecting his heart. the sleeping over part is kind of weird, too. sleeping on the floor takes out the sexual connatation, but other than him wanting to be close to her i cant find much meaning it. it has to be important though because it sets up the lines for half the song. suggestions r welcome. |

i think that this song is about a man that is trying to discover who he is. he doesnt feel in charge of his own life. he talks about his independence (inner self) calling to him, hesitating, and being unsure of what to do. he just pretends to be in control, a role that he plays for the benefit of others. he doesnt know where life will take him, but he knows that a big change needs to occur in order to find himself. he thinks this change is a person, someone who can help him discover his true self. i know i didnt cite lines, but if u look at the lyrics again (other comments wont hurt either) maybe ull find some of my ideas and even expand on them. input would be greatly appreciated. |

i get why a lot of people relate this to drugs. however, it is still about a crappy relationship he cant get out of. muse is comparing the girl to drugs through addiction, elation, etc. no matter how much she manipulates him, he cant leave. |
