| I got a vastly different interpretation to most people, perhaps because it fits me personally in a very different way. I think it’s about two entities, but they are both within the same person. The concept is similar to a patronus from Harry Potter (a patronus being a strong memory that defends a person from dementors/depression) as a patronus originates from a person but acts a separate entity. Similarly, I believe the generator is an entity/persona that originates from a person but acts separately.\n\nLately I\'m getting better\nWish I could stay sick with you\nBut there\'s too many egos left to bruise\n(The ‘person’ is feeling sick/down, ‘the generator’ was also sick/suppressed but not anymore, in fact, the generator’s improvement or actions can hurt/impact other people)\n\nCall it sin\nYou can call it whatever\n(The generator’s improvement/actions could be seen as something bad or misinterpreted)\n\nEating deep inside of you\n(but it actually has a strong effect on the person)\n\nWell if it were me it\'s all I\'d ever do\n(if the generator could completely take over the person, it would)\n\n\nSteal me now and forever\n(The generator asks the person: take me and keep me) \nI\'ll steal something good for you\n(If you do, I’ll bring good fortune)\nThe criminal in me is no-one new\n(the power that the generator has is well-known, though it can be bad)\n\nTill you find something better\n\nWhen there\'s nothing left to use\nAnd everything starts going down on you\n(There are other things that could help the person, but if nothing has worked, the generator is there)\n\nI\'m the generator\nFiring whenever you quit\nYeah, whatever it is\nYou go out and it\'s on\nYeah can\'t you hear my motored heart\nYou\'re the one that started it\n(The generator came into being from the person -you’re the one that started it-. | i like most of gomez songs because the meaning is oh so elusive - and so you are just left with awesome music and great one liners which we can relate to in SOME way. This, however, takes the cake! | |

Here goes a very alternative meaning: "Last night I slept in a strangers bed, last night I slept in a strangers bed I think I'll do it again" is what a (girl) friend tells him, to which he answers... that's fucked up. She then says it was just a one time, but then she ends up doing it again. The rest of the song fits in a way, as he is saying he is trying to help her, but the friend doesn't really care about him or anything really. |
