To me...This song is all about loving an addict. I think they just changed it to a "she" to not be completely obvious, and let people be able to interpret the song themselves more. With that said I think its about their friend and brother who died from the disease. This song hits hard being a recovering addict with a sister, brother, best friends....etc. Being an addict in recovery this song screams addiction. Especially, " its better to feel pain, then nothing at all" A theme often talked about in the rooms... The beauty for me in this comes in the writers understanding of the disease. Its not an easy thing. |

All songs mean something different to all of us. With that being said, to me, this song mean is about a break-up. Let's say that the girl broke this guys heart. First verse: He speaks about needing a change and a break. Start clean and fresh, somewhere new, but it doesn't matter because no matter what, he will just keep thinking about her ("but it's always back to you"). Second verse: Just the way you try to get out and think while dealing with a broken heart. Again, all his thoughts bring him back to her. Bridge: Maybe this means, he thinks he may be better without her, or maybe he's trying to convince himself that to help make himself accept it. Chorus: "How many times can I break till I shatter?" I think this relates to the trials/ lessons of life. I think he is asking himself, god, no one, How much pain can I bare, How much can I go through being breaking down. Continuing to the next line, He knows he's going crazy and he's not sure what exactly he wants. "I always turn the car around," to me this line speaks of how you just want to run away when life gets tough, and maybe he tries to runaway, but each time stands tall, fights the pain back, doesn't give up, and gets through it. "Give me a break...," refers to how people always seem to want to be there and help you, which is great and really does help, but in the end you really have to figure it out for yourself. A broken heart is only healed but time. Third verse: Maybe this refers to that first night after getting your heart broken. Where the time seems to stand still, your world is shattered, you feel numb, you feel that emotional pain in every inch of your mind, body and soul. You try to get lost, try to make it go faster, but all you want is to go back to your love. Most of the lyrics now are repeated, but there are a few original lines. "All that I feel is the realness I'm faking. Taking my time but it's time that I'm wasting." Maybe this is about how you pretend to the rest of this world that you're okay, that you aren't torn into a thousand pieces inside. You fake your happiness but that is all you can feel or think about. You take your time to work it all out, but you feel like your wasting your life without them, or just while trying to recover. Well all relate in our own ways to every song we hear. Word of advice for GTR57, if you have to try to convince him to be with you, you don't want him. Find someone who wants to fully be with you. He is out there. |

| Citizen Cope – Let the Drummer Kick Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| As you can here in the beginning of the song, and says before playing the song in concert, this song is about never giving up. I think it's easy to go through see how the words relate. I just don't know what he means but Let the Drummer Kick that...maybe to always keep the beat going, heart beat...never give up...? | |

It is definitely not wear. If you listen closely to that particular word, you can hear him put emphasis on the n. Clearly "win" in my opinion. These lyrics have a few errors. I think it is about maybe an ex-girlfriend or a girl he had "something" with."She said everything you’ve learned yeah you’ve been told. How can I get you to forget for awhile": But she ended up hurting him. She's trying to get him back. She wants him to forget what happened in the past. But he remembers what she did to him, but always how great she was. He doesn't mind a blonde, but is crazy for a brunette. "And shes got noting left to win, She’ll get your heart, forget your heart, she’ll get your heart again": Shes got everything else she wants, she wants him. She loves him. He knows although she hurt him in the past, he is crazy for her and totally in love. He knows that she can get him back, (because of his love for her), but he also knows he could hurt him, (because of her past). This is what the song is about. That struggle within himself. To take her back or not... The rest of the song is just him making the case to himself to take her back. With the chorus again being that struggle. I also want to say something about Citizen Cope as a group. THEY ARE AMAZING. Clarence Greenwood. His music is so different than anything that I have ever heard. If I am glorifying them to a friend the question of what kind of music they are seems to rise. I don't have a genre to put them in. They touch on issues, experiences, and feelings in so many different levels that anyone can find something meaningful in a song. How are they not bigger?!?! My favorite artist by far. Let it be said that I have never seen someone play with more raw emotion and passion than Clearance Greenwood. What a performance. |
