| Tokyo Police Club – A Lesson in Crime Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I thought it was "black, 'cause they belonged in hell." Anyways, I believe this song could be about a couple of things, but this is my number one idea: Someone whose peers never fell in love, were too tough skinned for it. He knows they'll all look down on him if he opens up to someone, but he wants to so badly. He's afraid he'll just accept the fact that he isn't made for love and will board up his heart and become another calloused heart. |

I concur, definitely tact. Anyways, I think this is a song about being strong and worrying about your own rights and standing up for yourself, but sometimes having to control yourself. "Swing those chains, start a fight. You've got nerve but we've got tact." I think the reference to being like a "classic" refers to older folks constantly saying things were made better and tougher in the old times. "It's how I was, it's how I tried, I was sixteen for the night" I think refers to being reckless as a teen and going back to that careless, "don't screw with me" state of mind. |

| I agree with your interpretation of this song, Rielle. I searched the song on Youtube, and it first came up with Sherlock Holmes: Murder at Baskerville's, or something along those lines. I thought maybe it was a coincidence, but then I listened to the song and I think it probably is a tribute to this, or it's using the story as a metaphor for something else entirely. | |
| Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Okay now, my view is completely different here. I haven't read all of them, so this may echo someone else's ideas... I like to try to take other stories from songs, stories other than those that are purely biblical. For example, I've got a completely different view on Viva La Vida than the whole "Moses/Jesus" thing. I think that this is a story about a love that was so pure once, but simply fell apart, drifted away. "The history books forgot about us." Their love was strong and everyone knew about it, they were the couple everyone wished they could be, but one day they just grew apart from each other. I think the hair thing is a metaphor, keeping away from the Biblical meaning. Long hair symbolizes the wall the man has, shielding her from his real feelings, that macho-man facade. However, she cut it off -- she tried to get through to him, tried to break through the mask. The second verse could show how he didn't care, how he resented it and just went back to bed without saying anything else. It seems careless and unthoughtful, like he just ignored her efforts to try to connect more. The fourth verse describes how the relationship should have gone, how it would have gone if they were meant to stay together. He would have opened up to her, loved her for it in spite of any problems there may have been. "Couldn't break the columns down," meaning that while they loved each other, they just couldn't be together because there was something between them. "The bible didn't mention us, not even once," symbolizing that their love wasn't the stuff of legends that they once thought it was. "You are my sweetest downfall, I love you first," meaning that Samson was her first "true love", the man she thought she would grow old with. However, the relationship fell apart and she grew depressed. She still had feelings for him, but knew it wouldn't work, and learned the hard way that a relationship needs work. This is just my interpretation of it, feedback is appreciated. c: |

| Cansei de Ser Sexy – Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Sounds like someone was kind of uptight and was trying to mellow themselves out. They tried getting high and being drunk but it took sex to but out the nerves. The sex was GREEAAAAT. It sounds like said person just wants a one-night stand to get over the nerves, but the singer wants more. More sex, more drinks, more time together. The person leaves and the singer is frustrated by it. That's my take on it. |

I'm kind of leaning towards the more twisted view. I love the Hush Sound to bits, but I have to say their music has always had a kind of devastating air, and this album in particular. It seems to me that this album is more melancholy than the others and I think that it really takes part in this song. I agree with most of the suggestions here, except for the Twilight one. It's not about Twilight, trust me. BTW Wonderwolf XDD You sound very contradictory. |

Uh, well, first off I LOVE this song, it's great. So catchy, I can listen to it over and over again, really excellent. Anyways, I think it's about either going out to a party and just chilling, or about being real, not being fake, and making sure that you have a good time with it. "The party forces awake N,n,n,neverbees" I think a never-be would probably be like, someone who just went with the crowd and never tried to create themselves. "Time for white knights in black suits to go home." Basically, if you're not going to be true to yourself you can forget about hanging out with us. "Flicking off the stereotypes," not caring what people say, OR staying away from the crowd, keeping out of any specific scene. IDK this is just my personal thoughts and speculations. The song might very well mean nothing at all. Either way, great band, great music. I |
