actually, i think this song just has a lot of interpretations. i like to think of it as our false lavish society, especially in america. our society is made up of success, wealth, and fame. basically, we always put ourselves first, and are always wanting more to keep us happy and lavish. and it's beautiful to think everyone is just so well off and ignore the rest of the world, but it's a lie. we deny the fact that other people are hurting and suffering because we don't care enough or we're too bent up in our own fickle problems. it's a realization of how selfish we are, and now: "Everyone's looking at me I'm running 'round in circles A quiet desperation's building high I've got to remember this is just a game" he's having to decide what he want's to live for. will he go back to just being part of this false, ignorant but pleasantly easy society or will he stand up for what's right? when he refers it to as a game, it could be trying to make it sound as if it really doesn't matter so much; it's not that serious. he's denying that there really is a problem, and he's desperate to have someone help him make a choice. beauty, wealth, and easy living or justice and meaning? |

| in a way, this is a more beautiful version of gwen stefani's song, "cool." two people have had an amazing relationship or maybe they had the potential to have one and then one of them got too scared. it doesn't matter now because each of them have grown up and moved on. maybe the one who was too scared to love in the beginning is still not able to love, and the other one is glad to have found real love with someone who can fully love him back. make sense? | |

| I have to agree that this song definitely makes some powerful references to 9/11 and America's overall arrogance and how we think that we're invisible. It will eventually be what makes us fall apart. I love it, it's just got a lot of power. | |
