going down the road can have several meanings to it. either abstract or concrete. He can mean going down the road feeling bad because of drugs or another reason. But if you look at it from a more abstract point of view then you can be going down the road(life) feeling bad about a certain situation or elongated problem. One of the great things about grateful deads music is that it can relate to anybody and you can use your imagination to their music. |

althea is about him going out with althea but he didnt want a girlfriend so they broke up and went seperate ways. then he wanted her back later on but she didnt want to go back out with him. well thats what I think |
