I don't see how this song glorifies hood life...to me it shows the mindset of people in it and how crazy it is there. Anyways, one of Nas's best songs...and that's saying something! |

If you are going to interpret it religiously it may be Jesse just not wanting to be part of an institution. But I don't know if that is how it was written. It might be about how he used to be so good. Now he is his own stone around his neck....basically hurting him. However, he's doing this by thinking the ship of people are fools unlike him whereas he is the fool. He wants someone to join him to prove to him he isn't crazy and he is scared and desperate. Actually, this works hand in hand with the first thing I said. The end of the song just is the organized church or religion talking about his mistake after his death. |

Now, this is a stab in the dark as to what the song would mean if it is "denser". I think the contrast between human is that a human is just a body but what would make it denser would be a soul and/or a spirit...possibly connected to God. "I did my best to notice When the call came down the line Up to the platform of surrender I was brought but I was kind And sometimes I get nervous When I see an open door Close your eyes, clear your heart Cut the cord" I think this is about descending to heaven or making moral choices. You need to make them with a clear heart, don't let your eyes deceive you, and let go (maybe thus putting your faith in God. Or cutting the cord as we cut a baby's cord to bring it into life. He is being brought into the real world or a different one) "Pay my respects to grace and virtue Send my condolences to good Hear my regards to soul and romance They always did the best they could And so long to devotion It taught me everything I know Wave goodbye, wish me well You've gotta let me go" I'm guessing that he is saying goodbye and going over the things that make him before he goes to this world. "Will your system be alright When you dream of home tonight There is no message we're receiving Let me know, is your heart still beating?" I have no good idea about this. Possibly he is asking someone still on our world, someone who is JUST human (like a machine) whether or not he is alive...or okay. The world Flowers is going into maybe, being Heaven, the ultimate home. Being a human/computer it can't go because it's separated from God. "Are we human or are we denser? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees looking for the answer Are we human or are we denser? " This is basically Flowers approaching death asking whether there is a God or whether he is only a human and nothing more. |

The only reason I would think it is "denser" is because I don't hear the "s" in supposed "dancers". But I would like to see the interview. |

| Matisyahu – King Without A Crown Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I am an atheist Jew (To all those ignorant of Judaism and the meaning of atheist... I am Jewish but don't believe in God) Before I'm told that that's impossible do some research and you will find that there are no set of beliefs that qualifies as you being Jewish. I mean, things you HAVE to believe in. (In fact, the Jewish heaven is open to everyone of any religion or non religion) Now, I'm not going to digest the lyrics as much as the Artist's thought when he writes them down. He has said he is not like a Christian rock band nor a Jewish one. He takes inspiration from the things around him. Often these are universal morals and ideas found in every religion and society. To put it simply, universal ideas with a Jewish theme. And don't think of him as courageous for being who he is. |

| Matisyahu – Jerusalem (Out of Darkness Comes Light) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The beginning of the 1st verse is about the history of the Jews and how they have had no shelter for so long. But he then goes to say he is not after the land, sea, or the country, which would be Israel, but the shelter of God. The 2nd verse is about adversity Jews have had to face in recent times. He ends it off though with a strong spirited "We will not" kind of thing. I think the last verse is about fighting through the future and keep on fighting towards something. This could be God's shelter or to peace/tolerance. The chorus is an old saying which is basically saying that means that forgetting Jerusalem is like not being able to use your prominent, in this case right, hand. |
