Idina Menzel – Don't Let Me Down Lyrics 17 years ago
First of all, what a tune! - It got me through my final exams in college. Idina totally captures the excess pressure an ambitious person can heap on themselves and the doubt and worry that can accompany it.
I wonder though, is it "doubt" "death" "dance" or something else in the bridge... "I can't choose the road ahead, Close my eyes and hold my breath
And hope my little DOUBT won't let me down" I've seen all 3 used in different places but I always sing Dance but doubt makes more sense!!??

Missy Higgins – Unbroken Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this is actually a song about telling her family she's bisexual.

The slap on the cheek, the sleeping lion and the signatures are a metaphor for her parents disapproval. Her father took the news badly and now her mother is following his lead and now she's packing her bags and leaving. She didn't expect this to be such a big deal and suddenly her innocent/virgin view of life is gone. Everyone gets this wake up call eventually just as we all "succomb to the pull of gravity."

The chorus tells me that, yes, things are bad at the time but it's better to get the info it out there and in time perhaps she'll feel a little better/unbroken for telling them even though things didn't work out as planned. It has obviously been taking alot out of her kepng this secret.

The second verse is admiitting that life is not going to be easy for her - "bring the metal to the fire" could represent the disapproval again. At this time her life feels like it has been "tainted" by her "curiosity", which I think is really sad!

The coda really spells it out for me though. She feels isolated bottling up her true identy and she has tried to run from it but it has only make her feel worse so now she's taking it on the chin and facing up to who she is because "real life will never go away"
