guys. not everything is political...like eddie pointed out, both "The Stage Names" and "The Stand Ins" are about the ups and downs of touring and being in a band. If you disagree with that then you're just wrong...anyway, no matter what your opinion is on Bush, Obama, politics, etc, this doesn't mean that your favorite songs have to be about it too. These metaphors that you guys are talking about are a bit of a stretch to be honest...hes singing about being on a boat. Will Scheff has continued to produce amazing music throughout his career, but he has never really been made a political song. Why start now on an album that has nothing to do with politics? |

The line that hits me is "If life's not beautiful without the pain, I'd just rather never even see beauty again." paraphrased of course. That sums up the whole song for me, life can be shitty sometimes and at this point he doesn't even see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's beautiful and sad, but i love this song, along with the album. |

Definately the Arctic Monkeys best song. Almost has a dark undertone to it which i wasn't expecting after listening to Mardy Bum and Old Yellow Bricks. Its no wonder they got so popular. |

The meaning of this song isnt too complex--it means exactly what it says. But yet, it's such a beautifully written song, it hits you in a different way everytime you listen to it. I love how its structured-unlike 90 percent of every other songs, it doesnt follow the verse,refrain,verse, refrain, set up, but rather it tells a story. love it. |

Music is listened to as an escape and yet you and your radical left wing friends have to make everything sound anti-american. Its people like you who preach open-mindessness and unbiased judging isnt it? but yet its people like you who make everything go your way. I am a conservative, but yet i can accept the fact that Bush screwed up as president. Great song from a very underrated band. The meaning is pretty easy to understand and actually kind of funny. Guy hears a poet, hates everything about him, steals from him, screws his girlfriend, meets up with him by pure chance, and is a jerk. Obviously there's more to the song, but this is who "The Poet" is. I just wish they were more popular, Niccokick is a very good band with some good songs. |

The narcissist is just a little too obvious for me. I feel like there is a deeper meaning to this song rather than this guy thinking he is awesome.
ok suggestion: The guy is depressed because nothing is going right in his life. The songs portrays how he would like to see himself. This is him trying to make his life seem like it is worth something. I dont think it is about young Jesus getting drunk. |

This song seems like it has some references to God-like most u2 stuff-but i can't see Bono referring to God as "baby baby baby". Either way it is a classic that i think is underrated when it comes to u2 songs. |
