The Decemberists – Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect Lyrics 16 years ago
In my mind this is about a man who is unhappy with his life. He thinks of other, more impressive, lives but they always have a tragic end. The solider can't be with the woman he loves because he won't stop being a soldier. The architect can't build a building. The Spaniard lives too close to death. He repeats "guess it's better to turn [out] this way." In the end he realizes he won and those lives he imagined lost because he hasn't come to a tragic end.

The Decemberists – Sleepless Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't know why, but when I first heard this I imagined a man that maybe owned a vineyard ("a field of tears that will never yield a single penny"), loved a girl, girl dies. He meets another girl, but is never the same "did his eyelids fix on empty chairs." He becomes an alcoholic and the new girl is carrying him and the relationship. Finally the narrator tells us that the girl is exhausted because she's been carrying all the weight of the relationship and she just needs to let him go "you're weary, lay him down you did your time so thank you very much... hand it all away"

I don't think this is anywhere close to the correct meaning, but meh, whatever.

Oh, and I've found a few mistakes in the lyrics, but it's good enough for just a rough copy (most of the mistakes are when Colin sings very quietly).

The Happy Bullets – The Vice and Virtue Ministry Lyrics 17 years ago
My younger cousin loves when I sing high pitch to her, so I always sing this song haha
She enjoys it and only revers to it as "that silly song" haha

The Decemberists – I Was Meant for the Stage Lyrics 17 years ago
I've listened to the Decemberists for years now, never really connecting with this song (other than thinking it kicked ass). As I started the college application process it really hit me. The school I want to go to most "Nothing short of fate itself has affected my decision." Not only this, but, I want to major in Journalism to which both my parents are trying to pressure me to decided a different major because "[Daughter], you'll never make a living" but like the narrator of this song, I'm doing it for love, not money.
This sort has become my anthem of the application process.

Long live the Decemberists.
