To me this song will always be about someone suffering from suicidal issues. This is where it ends This is where it ends [obviously means he is about to kill himself, and this is where his life ends] Call the police and call the press But please, dear God, don't tell my friends [he's saying you can tell the police he killed himself, and tell the news reporter. Just don't tell his friends that he killed himself.] "Can my illness be my saviour?" [I think that is sort of self-explanatory is this guy is suicidal] "I have loved and I have waited" [He's tired of waiting for love, thus he decides to kill himself.] It all makes sense to me.
