I think the meaning is obvious. He hurt her, proboably more than once ("and I won't let you down. I swear this time I mean it"), And I think he's just asking her for another chance. The vocals are amazing. I just got the cd yesterday and this song is already my favorite. It's been on repeat. I almost cried when I first heard I Swear This Time I Mean It. I personally thought that the song had to do with the guy breaking up with the girl. Hence the words: "And I saw the tears on your face. I shot you down. And I slammed the door but couldn't make a sound. So please stay sweet, my dear. Don't hate me now. I can't tell how this last song ends" He made her cry. He broke up with her before he actually told her. That's why it says i slammed the door but couldn't make a sound. He didn't have the strength to actually break up with her. So he finally did it. And now he's saying don't hate me. but I don't know how we're going to end. He's writing the last song of their relationship. But then realizes he wants her back... He realizes he was stupid for breaking up with her. And he wants to see if she still loves him. That's just my opinion. When my ex boyfriend asked me to be his girlfriend he sang me this song first. Kind of weird actually... I thought he was gonna say he didnt ever wanna talk to me again! Lol. But very amazing song |

My ex used to sing this song to me... He was always worried I was going to leave him because he thought I could find someone better. Turns out he's the one who left me. So now I was the one to sing this song lol. My favorite part: "Don't you see? I'm not the only one for you, but you're the only one for me." Me and my ex were going out for about 2 months and we were listening to this song parked at the lake.
