Marilyn Manson – Mechanical Animals Lyrics 16 years ago
I think I'm the only one that thinks about a relationship that fails in this song.
Obviously I might be wrong but every song is open to personal interpretation I believe and it speaks to me the most when I think of it this way.

It makes me think of someone I was once with and how he searched for the approval of those who all thought the same way, the "mechanical animals" if you will and slipped away from me. I knew they would never care for him in the way that I had. But he was too far gone and I had to accept that I was never going to be the one for him and he would not let me in nor let me be the one to save the world for him. Now I talk to him and he's just like the others.

I don't know, that's how I see it anyway. Makes me think of that movie Brick.

Amanda Palmer – Runs in the Family Lyrics 17 years ago
Out of the entire WKAP video series, this one was my favorite. It's powerful, full of INSANE and GENIUS. Ha. Those two often do go hand in hand anyway :P

I heard that Amanda was hesitant about putting this one on her solo album. This song definitely makes me think of Half Jack from the first album.

This song is filled with so much, that it'd be hard for me to break it apart and analyze it all. But in the opening she talks about her friends and how they inherited these certain problems, how it's genetic and they can't help it. Which leads her into her own problems with her family and the illness she inherited from them, then back to talking about other friends that also carry "diseases" that their ancestors or family also had.

I'm not too sure what "illness" Amanda has. I think of promiscuity to be honest, since there are alot of sexual references. She goes on to say that her family would never forgive her if she told anyone. I don't think Amanda is saying that being promiscuous runs in her family. I think what she's saying is that her family was so fucked up that it just happened to make her this way. And of course what happened will always stay with her, be inside of her, and she can never run away from it.

...that's just my interpretation...i could be really wrong lol. Nonetheless, I really love this song. And if you haven't seen the video yet

Amanda Palmer – Oasis Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. I think the contrast between what the voice is actually saying and the happy upbeat music is just a tad ironic, ha. It is definitely the voice of the typical adolescent. Experiencing rape/molestation/abortion/backstabbing friends but having none of it move her in anyway because going to a concert or hearing from Oasis is more important, significant that it overshadows all else and puts it in the dark.

I know I've had things happen to me, that really should have traumitized me maybe. But I completely disregard it.

I think in today's society, the youth of today, as a whole we're just completely desensitized to these things...

Amanda Palmer – Another Year: A Short History of Almost Something Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is one of my favorites on the album. It completely breaks my heart, the piano in the beginning is absolutely moving. I think this song is relatable for many people. I know for me it came out at the right time in my life. This whole year me and my friend would always talk about the things we wanted to do. How she wanted to quit smoking. Or how I wanted to be with the guy I liked. We'd always talk about the the things we wanted but never really did anything to get those things. We assumed that this year was terrible (and this year actually was the worst of my life) we kept telling ourselves that next year would get better. So I think of that when I listen to this.

In this case, I think this song is a bit more specific. I agree with Veit. Amanda is a very personal writer, but in her songs like Ampersand or The Perfect Fit, she has always made it apparent that it's very hard for her to get close to anyone. I think this song also portrays that...where Ampersand is somewhat powerful, and The Perfect Fit is completely shattering and vulnerable, this is filled with a voice that sings of hopelessness but yet...still has some faith that things will change.
