I seriously wonder why there are almost no comments to on archive songs. Maybe because not so many have really great lyrics. But this one definely deserves... a LOT. I love many other sound they produce but mostly for the climb in intensity and the sound itself.

It's a totally amazing song. Actually it does reflects and inspires my life a lot. Therefore i won't say that for me it's a need of love or about someone to take care of me, it s more about someone to give me a decent reason for being here on earth as a human being. Someone to pull soft links around me, to be around and to prevent me from slipping into my dark side. It's a song about someone who lost a mother too early i think. It's a song about a pattern. Failing... on purpose. Testing, trying to make sure the anchor is solid enough. Keep me from failing, disappearing from you. Keep me from going away from you because you don't want me ... enough.

Muse – Starlight Lyrics 17 years ago
First of all, i'm not very familiar with english but hopefully, words in the song are pretty easy.

Here is my point. When you look at the song of the album and the order of them, you can figure out this album is a whole story. I see songs like scenes in a theater or in a movie. In every songs if you can take them separated from the other you can find a meaning of your own which makes all those lyrics amazings, but the true meaning sounds clear if you
look the album as a whole.

To me, Starlight after the "Take a bow", is definely talking about a soldier leaving his country to go to war.

It is the feelings some soldier would have while leaving their country and their beloved family and girl. He would be shared between the trust his has with his "military mission" (which he definely doubts of sometimes) and his beloved girl.

He would sometimes see his mission to re-ignite all the prisonned souls that would just die just to feel alive, which is pretty much what governments give to soldier to give them the strengh to carry their hard mission. Save those from the talibans... those from Saddam.. etc. It's a powerfull sense for their mission and soldiers need that to give them that starlight, that vision of an ideal world, that powerfull role they think they have. On the side the starlight is also the power of the love he has for his girl. Starlight is idealism, either for the world or for love. It's far above the reality, something you'll never catch up but run after.. like that soldier.

Black holes and revelations ... war
Our hopes and expectations ... love

The meanings in that song are really really powerful.

I think he should rather be holding her that going to war though... ^^
