I like to call this the 'working class love song.' It's beautiful in ways that are hard to explain, but what it does is strip away all the pretences of romance, all that malarchy that's found in fairytale romances and makes it strictly about the two characters. It's also very Londony. LOVE IT. |

This song has no sole message I think. Like most KB songs it's very general, it depicts the cliche that 'good will triumph over evil.' I think what KB's intention is that not to lecture audience with overly political rants like most punk bands, but get them conscious enough so they can research their own politics through such catchy music. |

This song isn't an attack on America as many people write it of as. It's not patriotic exactly but it is only attacking America and it's state of the beginning of the 21st century. What Billie Joe calls 'the age of hysteria' is the America that was formed after 9/11 where the mania and hysteria almost meant 'everythign wasn't meant to be ok.' He is attacking the paraniod patriot, what he refers to as 'rednecks' and he identifies himself with the more liberal America, what many patriots would call the 'faggot america.' So we see that he is not completely isolating himself from his country. |

I think the characters Billie Joe talk about in this album is just a stereotype taken from society. The outsider, desensitized teenager of the American system. He is the 'son of a bitch of Edgar Allen Poe.' Anyone who goes through the american education system studies Poe and himbeing the SOB is another way of him saying that he is the unwanted member of the system. What people often overlook is the very poetic and metaphoric lyrics of Billie Joe on this album. It's brilliant. |

I think doesn't have a specific meaning. One of the main themes that shines through is of being FREE. He starts of in the song being this PLAYING HARD TO GET guy. 'I tried to play chill, but you're so hot that I melted' But eventually, he just gives up and gives into the love of this girl. He mentions about just going with the flow and not caring about your looks too much. It's your identity that matters more. 'I�d been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer My breath fogged up the glass And so I drew a new face and laughed I guess what I�m a saying is there ain�t no better reason To rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons It�s what we aim to do. Our name is our virtue.' -This verse is saying that he realised he had been caring too much of his looks and then he just decides to go with the flow.
