Matt Nathanson – Miracles Lyrics 17 years ago
JadedOne, i believe you if you say Matt said that but here's how i interpret it; I grew up in a town where people had a lot of money and a lot was expected of their kids. the teachers knew this, as a matter of fact the teachers taught most of their own children in their classes because they lived in the district. This town i lived in, kids were never told they couldn't do anything, they were always told they were great and no one was better (or so it seemed by the way they acted). I interpret this song as talking to those kids before it's too late. as telling a story about someone like that. "his" parents told him he was great from the time he was young. "with sticks for legs, well he shook when the wind blew" aka: he was a "hero" with no strength underneath him, any challenge was difficult for him. at the end of the song he goes through college and life in general, leaves his hometown and is no longer as great as he thought he was, therefore he is left a cocky, friend-less bitch. i may be wrong, but that's what i hear when i listen to it.

Matt Nathanson – Bent Lyrics 17 years ago
Alright, here's my take on the song. I went through this kind of relationship and this song really hit me hard when that relationship ended. I feel as if when he says "if i bent like you said was best, would that change a thing" he's referring to a girl, who's broken up with him but willing to give him another chance if he's willing to change his ways. but, the way he sees it is, he's changed and done everything she's asked of him because he's so obsessed with her he feels he needs her he'd do anything to get her back, so he does EVERYTHING she asks, and nothing changes. Then in the chorus he's saying he's sorry for being a shitty boyfriend (sarcastically) and should he thank her for giving him that second chance...? then he says "and i hope you'll always be." but stops himself because he realizes that she'll never be his again. The second verse he brings up all her faults that she kept from everyone that he is aware of, but because she kept them from everyone she's still able to get the other guys cuz she seems perfect on the outside. at the end he says "it was wrong...all wrong" referring to the whole relationship was a mistake, he thought he knew her but he didn't, and all she did was lead him on again by telling him he could still have her and once he changed and did these things to get her back, she wouldn't take him. "women suck" is the moral of matt nathanson's songs. except laid. that song says "sex is awesome"
