| Mirah – Don't Die In Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Mirah is actually a lesbian (thankyou Wikipedia), but the song can be taken in the context of any romantic relationship. Most of the lines are fairly straightforward. "The mighty continents divided" seems a fairly direct reference to Pangaea. Within that context there is an allusion to drifting apart and separation. There are also clear references to evolution and change. An "apple with a tougher skin" and "your pretty scales and fins" are references to evolutionary change and differences that have occured through evolution. This can also be considered with the reference to drifiting apart, as people evolve separately when they are no longer together. It seems a lot of people tend to associate with this song personally. From my perspective the lines "Don't forget to be kind to me / I don't want you to die in me" are saying that she still has feelings for the other person inside of her, and she doesn't want to lose those feelings of affection, but it requires the other person to be kind and not destroy the feeling. |
