| Epica – Fools of Damnation (The Embrace That Smothers Part IX) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I know how you feel damas. I'm a Christian, and we respect other people's beliefs, we're kind and understanding. But there are those people who misrepresent our faith and give the rest of us a bad name =/ That's why I love this series by Mark Jansen. My motto: Trust in God, question religion. |

| Nightwish – Cadence of Her Last Breath Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think this song is about running from love, finding it, and then losing it. The first verse is about a girl running from love and "running for her life" because she finally decided to love. But she "chose a dark day to live" and love because the man she loved rejected her. So the "breathtaking butterfly" ran away, crying and smearing her makeup ("the dark rain from her eyes still falls"). The second verse is told from the point of view of another man, "a loner", one who has been "miss[ing] someone" he's "never met", his soulmate. He's been searching for love, lying "with bated breath", and then he sees the girl, "a butterfly". And suddenly "all the poetry in the world finally makes sense" to him because the "seawinds brought" the one he's been waiting for. The chorus is a reference to a wedding vow "til death do us part". The man from the second verse wants to be the one the girl pledges her last breath to, the one she vows to never part from until death. He "drink[s] for beauty", the beauty of his love for her, and it fills his "blank page" because, again, "all the poetry in the world finally makes sense." But then the girl dies, hence the line "sometimes a dream turns into a dream." While the man waited, he dreamt of his future, his love. Then he finds her only to lose her in death. Afterwards, he dreams of the past and the love he had for her. The dream for his future "turns into" the dream, the remembrance, of the past. |

| After Forever – Dreamflight Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| To me, this song is about retreating into yourself, turning to your dreams, in order to escape the nightmare. The "nightmare" is the world with all your fears, pain, doubts, and hatred. | |

This is one of my favorite songs on this album. I love how it starts slow and then builds and sweeps you away, like the calm before the storm. Anyway, I think this song is about lost hope and a lost love. Her world has fallen apart and now she has to sort through the pieces. |

| Within Temptation – Forgiven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song seems to be about a parent mourning a child who grew up and moved out. But the child couldn't "face the freedom" on his own. Perhaps he finally saw the dark side of the world after being "shielded" for so long and it was simply too much for him to take in. So he "gave up the fight" and committed suicide. | |

This was the first Nightwish song I heard and I've been hooked ever since! And andersap pretty much nailed the meaning. |
