| going through this now...but I'm past this part, I'm done calling. DONE. I refuse to make myself available anymore...just so that HE can be a dick, lie to me, and blow me off...again. Fuck him. | |
| Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 17 years ago |

When I first read the lyrics to this song I really felt like it was describing, at least in part, the insensitivity of the world that we live in, in general. Possibly about the way things have changed...references to trains, sewing machines, blood and tears, all those years "they were here first"...people that have come and are gone now. This idea also fit in with the almost mechanical, yet emotional sound of her voice here...definitely alot of feeling in the song but it was expressed in an almost new-age way, like a machine could have made the sound but didn't (possibly suggesting that she was not just going with the movements of life as well...) and still, she couldn't hide all of the feeling in her voice. I didn't think that was the only piece to the song, though, because of the references to her personal life as though she was directly talking to someone who left her and didn't care. Maybe she started realizing how cold the world was when this person left. BUT...I really, really like and agree with what la ritchie said, I would never have thought of that myself...it's incredibly insightful...so, I don't know. Thats what I love about Imogen, though, nothing is ever straightforward... |

| Play Radio Play – There Are Cooler Ways To Die Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think...that he is comparing all of the other things that this person could be doing that would hurt themselves just as badly (relating the lyrics to the title) and he seems really...dissapointed in this person, I think his last few lines are kind of funny "Who would have thought that it just begun Ready to sacrifice your lungs When your stress is the first thing on your list And looking cool comes" ...this is a common excuse for people who smoke...and it's ironic because they don't want to feel stressed and smoking is known to help with anxiety but won't their declining health be the biggest stressor in the long run? Since "smoking is the scene" this person must also be oe who likes to fit in and gave up on what he referred to as the cure...probably refering to not smoking, curing your future and your health. I also love the lines "We know the guilt will drift away As soon as we forget about today" because you know it's true, when he's done giving this person hell about it, and the conversation is over...they will go back to whatever they do and this person will just forget about it and continue smoking. Funny but not, I really just like his wording, he's a smart-ass. I like that. |

| Play Radio Play – Compliment Eachother Like Colors Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Well, considering he wrote most of his songs while in rehab, I'm going to assume that it's about a relationship that he was in when he was using. He was trying to stop and she wasn't...at one point they both did but relapsed and it seems that he fears that they could only "compliment eachother like colors" when they were both addicts, hoping that the drugs weren't the only thing keeping them together and so compatable at the time. He makes alot of references to music suggesting that writing and making music gave him meaning in his own life. He doesn't seem very optimistic overall about the relationship but that doesn't change the fact that he misses it...I know that alot of addictions (like smoking) are more difficult to stop in certain sitations (smoking in the car, after you eat...) and in this song, it's her. Of course, he was into something much more hardcore, I think herion. Being in certain places, with certain people had to be extremely hard for him when he was trying to stop (hence the relapse) "Last time we returned to our old ways" and so he most likely had to get away from the entire situation...remove himself (into rehab)...overall, heartbreaking, pessimistic, but still somehow hopeful... just my guess. :) |

| Regina Spektor – 20 Years of Snow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Kind of like me and my dad...he's a stoic and reserved alchoholic war vet and I'm...(well, now 21) not sure I really know him. I have managed to be positive through alot, and I'm always helping people (even when I shouldn't, I now get yelled at for helping and getting used.) but...yeah, I don't know. | |

I was reading the lyrics and peoples' comments while listening to the song and I put a few ideas together. Like many have said, it does sound like it's coming from a childs' point of view. Ïf I kiss you where it's sore" sounds to me like a child trying to heal boo-boos with kisses. I think that by saying "where it's sore" it makes it sound like there are actual physical bruises or something...as well as the emotional scars. I think that maybe her friend lives in an abusive household. The lines "Born like sisters to this world. In a town where blood ties are only blood" seem to imply that the singer and the person she is singing to are VERY close, and by saying that blood ties don't mean much to those around them, they have found a connection that is as close as blood ties should be. A chosen family member. Those two lines also tie back to the possible issues that are going on in the family, stating again that the girl she is singing to isn't close to her family and that there are problems there. The next two lines "If you never say your name out loud to anyone. They can never ever call you by it" sounds like the person singing is trying to comfort the other one. The other girl could be scared, trying to hide from something...either the abusive family member or social services? Or, it could mean that she is called bad names by somebody and because this is coming from a child's point of view it's not up to par with adult rationality. Finally, the line "I don't understand" is reminding the listener that the singer is just trying to help in a situation that she has no clue what to do in, all she knows is that her very close friend is hurt and she wants to make it better but she can't...she is running out of ideas by the end of the song but continues to try to "kiss it better" because as a kid, that's what you think will help every situation. It's all you know. Sorry, that was long. I pretty much just connected what I read from a bunch of other people and added a little bit of my own... |

| Hot Hot Heat – You Owe Me An I.O.U. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
definitely a catchy song... A couple has lost sight of the purpose of being in a relationship and it's possible that they've gotten too comfortable to the point where things started to slip...He takes her for granted over and over again...gets angry at her (tight fists) and possibly keeps apologizing for it or says that he is going to change somehow, (talk is even cheaper told in bulk)...and she continues to allow this to happen. The term crocodile tears is actually new to me...I don't know what that means. I think it's pretty much about how they owe eachother the appreciation that they used to get and the positive attention that should come with being in a relationship...since they never change, they are doomed to continue it this perpetuous cycle. It's pretty sad, but the song doesn't feel that way... :) |

| ...yeah...just realized that my first sentence didn't make sense, I meant the melody created through the upbeat sound...etc... | |
| Ben Folds – You Don't Know Me (feat. Regina Spektor) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I have become completely addicted to this song...the sound created through the upbeat sound mixed with their voices is amazing. Anyway, I think this is something that happens to alot of couples who become too comfortable...you can spend such a huge amount of time with someone and realize later that what you had was company, not love. | |
