Response to meaning of the song during an interview: ------- OLIVER: Being the drummer, the vibe I felt, well - we went through a sort of Gary Numan-esque, Tubeway Army sort of feel in terms of beats. But, lyrically we've decided on the meaning since we've written the track. When we wrote it, we thought this is just gibberish, but the snake is our metaphor for bad drug things and the rabbit is what you want the drug to be. It's a metaphorical thing, which is what we've decided it means. ------- In short, it's about being drawn in by the positive aspect of drugs (the rabbit), only to be bitten by the reality of using them (the snake). With this knowledge, the verses make a lot more sense. Terra Firma is a Latin phrase for "solid earth", a phrase used to differentiate from the sea. This may refer to the reality-check that is taking place; returning to earth with a bump after (at first) enjoying the highs of the experience, ignorant to the negative side. |
