I think it's about being alone in the world. "I knew this would be hell but this is not living" He knew that spending a life in solitary wouldn't be fun, "but this is not living" because theres no point if you have no friends to be by your. "push them down and exhale water push them down and exhale blood" The more you push them away the harder it gets for you to "breathe" (the harder life gets) "you wanted this" Pretty much speaks for itself "and if we cant even trust ourselves how can we trust anyone else" Also speaks for itself...he chose to live a life as a loner because he doesn't tust anyone, he hardly trusts himself. "it's not safe to swim today, it's not safe" 'swim' being venture out into the world. he wants to go out, but he continues to remain alone, in fear that something bad will happen if he goes out. "i don't think i can be saved" Again like the last line - he never thinks he can stop being alone, although he wants to. "this shallow water is my grave" He has come to the conclusion he will forever live in the 'shallow water', being his home and his lonliness, where there is less chance of 'drowning' Another thought is perhaps it is someone who lives a life of hatred, and constantly he thinks of commiting suicide, his thoughts through the day as he plans to suicide, why he wants to, and his final decision. I think my first idea was right though. I kind of feel the first idea when I listen to the song too. |

My thoughts are this: Maybe you've heard of the "bogeyman". It was what parents would say to get kids to sleep. But when you think of it, why scare them shitless? They won't sleep if they are afraid to close their eyes. I think "the sandman" is the old "bogeyman". If you wanted to sing a lullaby to put a child to sleep, you wouldn't do it about a scary monster and that's why this heavy metal song was made :P I love it :) |

Honey, if you read what I said properly you would undersrtand what I am trying to get at, but perhaps you have no patience for that, only your own ideas. If you fall in love with someone, you do it for their personality, not what form they come in. Well people that care about personality anyway. You know, when I'm angry, I listen to heavy metal. You'd think it would make me more angry, but au contraire. My anger gets taken out of me, and I end up sitting on my bed just bopping my head or tapping my foot to the music. I'm sure others feel like this too. If you wish to group us and mock us for doing this, so be it. But your reasons behind the grouping, are really the things to laugh it, not the fact we would prefer to listen to music rather than hurt someone. As for "musical talent", I would love it if you could play this and make a video of your playing, then send it in to me. I'm being deadly serious too. The thing in which bands may have or lack is not talent, but appealing to people. Is it really the bands talent, or the human's taste in music? As far as the lyrics go, they may not be the nicest, granted, but taking any happening and putting it into music, requires skill. You can have your lyrics, and you can have your music, but putting the lyrics into the music, or the music into the lyrics, is what makes a good song. You can't put rape into pop, and you can't put pop into rape. I wish to be your friend, and guide you where you are mistaken, rather than punching you. My critisism is to be taken constructively, and this does not mean constructing a "come back", for how can you "come back" if there was nothing there in the first place? This is what I would like for you to try and understand. |

I like all of the thoughts on this song, and I think this song is so genius BECAUSE of all the different ideas you can have on it, not the actual meaning of the song (:- they wanted the the song's meaning to be what you think it is, because there are so many different ways to look at it) So, following what I have just said, my idea as to the meaning of the song:- I agree with whoever noted about the title. The title says it all. Way back when, before we even had cities, life must have been awesome. No pollution no disorder, no actual 'government' even, because as much as our government helps us, everyone makes mistakes. So back then it was iust plain and simple. And people were happy and animals (which came in a lot more numbers) were too (to the extent before one of the people had to kill it to eat it, but then another animal would do the same, [circle of life]) I think this would explain the highly controversial part "when I became the sun, I shone life into the man's hearts", As in when there was only the good old sun as the most scientific thing people would have probably actually wondered about. Not quite sure how far back I'm dating here though, maybe the stone age lol :P |

I love this song. I love it so much. You can feel how he feels when he sings it. Sure Alexi makes jokes and says that the band is "the product of broken bones and lots of alcohol", but bodom are one of the hardest working bands, and look at where they are now. Ive seen the lyrics ricoetc has posted on more lyric sites than just this one, and if you are a bodom fan *cough cough ;)* then you will eventually start to understand when alexi does the screamo, there are a few letters he pronounces differently. Like "n" sounds more like "l" etc. So when the word "no" is said, it sounds more like "low", which can lead to confusion as to what the lyrics are. However, I sang along with all of the lyric postings here and I believe that the ones this site are showing (ricoetc's submission to the site) are correct. And austriangold, I'm afraid you are quite wrong. Here's a perfect example = "Angles don't kill" from their album "Hatecrew deathroll" Defeats the object of heavy metal, but this song nearly made me cry lol. Very touching. As to the meaning of this song, the "sixpounder cannon theory" sounds correct, although if so, the video is totally misleading :P But then again, an old "war video" isn't as fun as some woman getting worms put into her eyes XD Whatever, this song is major kickass. uninvisible, state your opinion, but don't go saying that others are wrong. Fag is an offensive term. If you wish to insult someone by calling them homosexual, which if you look at it, is not an insult it just proves you are shallow, and care about looks more than personality, then please use the correct phrase. Plus music genre's are not for human genre's, everyone is free to listen to whatever music takes their fancy, and not have to be grouped. Thirdly, in my opinion, you must like people singing through their noses if you prefer miley cyrus. Most regards if you could get this trhough your skull and into your brain. xx |

I bet I'm the only female posting for this song. Anyway if you like vicious music, then this is the perfect song for you. I love music like this, which is why I currently have this song on replay :P Its so dark its awesome as hell. If you don't like it, don't go saying other people have bad music taste, just say you personally don't like it. Why is this so difficult people?
