good call. the bird could be the 'holy spirit' and the repetition of 'bang your dead' is the insistence of the finality of death.
but the 'you live a shitty life, we live a bon, bon vie' and 'when feathers fly, you deny everything' seems to speak more to a real person than a deity. But like haszcz says, it's not clear.
maybe it's a blend of both; religion and consumerism - like that unique brand of American culture, where Jesus died so we can all eat 'Freedom Fries' and make a heroic career for ourselves? |

might it be a rage against the lark of consumerist society? the petulant tennis player at the end of the video seems to sum up the absurdity and immorality they’re fighting against….? |

a perfect 2.30 intro...and beautiful entry by Fontella Bass, just cruising along and around the notes, what a voice....and then she really lays it on at the re-intro at 3.30 backed by the production...possibly the most moving expression of sadness in music...to me the song evokes such a strong feeling of loss and the words echo the grief |
