| Brand New – The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This song is about how people often miss the little signs that their relationship is not going to work. The song continues to point out the differences between the two people. Examples... Instead of just seeing the western coast (which is a sign of something beautiful and positive), he also sees the hospital (a negative symbol.) As he looks back he is realizing he never was happy. Then he says the reports of lovers tryst we neither clear nor descript meaning, the signs that they were going to have conflict were not obvious early on so they just kept with the relationship ignoring the "quiet things that no one ever knows." The song continues to point out things that they didn't notice before. The rain on their wedding day for instance. They didn't think of it at the time but maybe now it was symbolic. A negative symbol. They talk about kids shouldering the blame. I think this is just the family being more of a house than a home as a result of the parents lying to themselves about their relationship. Hence the line "I lie for only you. And I lie well." Basically saying, both parents lie to themselves as to how bad things have gotten. |

I dont think this song has to do with Ben at all. It's simply about the music industry and how every new artist is just for show. (When did the music become a beauty pagaent) (Lately my sense of pride has been chronically absent) This is him saying he has given in to the industry and has produced music THEY wanted, not what he wanted. This is the basis for the line (Should have never given birth to this monster) Then he screams "Domesticate!" To domesticate something is to tame it. By domesticate he is talking about the industry taking away the art of music and making everyone the same (a beauty pagaent). When he says "so much for combat" hes saying "so much for me sticking to my guns and producing the music HE wanted. Hence the line "Ive become a participant of something i once fought against." The most confusing line is "Dollars and pence. Cubic or metric. You can sit down but the chairs are electric." I think what he is saying is... you can "sit down" and sign that big contract to that big label and produce ur generic music but in the end, its going to burn you. In the last line he says "for all this same, id like to hide my head in the ground". by "all this same" once again he is talking about all the music being the same. and he wants to hide his head because he too fell victim to the industry. |

| Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| In my opinion, he is not sure whether he is going to heaven or hell and the more time he spends on earth the further he drifts from God. (But I've had some time, O Lord, to hone my lying technique) He wants to believe and he knows he is coming for him (I know you're coming for the people like me.) but he's afraid that by the time Jesus comes for him it will be too late. (This ship went down in sight of land.) | |

i hate when people try to interpret every single line of a song. this is what i think the song is about. from what i have read i think everyone else is trying to break it down waaaay too much. i think this song is simple about a person who cant seem to fall in love and is sort of wondering why? or if something is wrong with him? "Sunrise. wake up. stand up. look into Red eyes. Stayed up all night thinking of reasons why I can't feel your skin" in this part of the song he is talking about how the fact that he cant get any sleep cuz he is thinking about how much this girl should mean to him but even still, "he cant feel her skin" "Couldn't brace yourself in the morphine hallway lying on the ground with a heart as a ball and chain message to the bird I know your wings will be fine spread them on the floor, learn to heal with take" (the morphine refers to the numbness that he feels toward her or his lack of ability to love thus his heart feels more like a ball and chain meaning it is weighing him down. the reference to the broken wings is another metaphor for his inability to love. spreading your wings is a metaphor for learning to love.) falling in love I have been reading lies. (this is him saying he is starting to not believe in love) Watch this turn to dust I won't know when you've fallen Now it all takes shape I won't go until you follow. (the relationship is falling apart or "turning to dust." and hes saying "i wont fall in love until i am certain you too will love me." this section of the song shows his insecurity and fear of falling for someone.) There are a few other lines earlier in the song that show his unwillingness to fall in love. "i am sticking to all these one liners" (usually one liners r things said with no truth to them. he just saying stuff. perhaps just what the girl wants to hear but he doesnt believe them) "because i can send you aside" (this is him sort of... threatening the girl saying if you hurt me i can leave in an instant and you wont hurt me) |

| Underoath – I Don't Feel Very Receptive Today Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i interpret it like this... He is depressed. He was locked himself in a room to just get away from the world and he is thinking of commiting suicide. (I feel like cutting it open tonight. And falling on the floor)(I feel like dripping it dry tonight) This line refers to him cutting himself and collapsing to the floor. But the song has a good ending. i dont think he kills himself (It's time to open up the door) I dont see anything in the lyrics that definitively point to religion or sin. If you want to speculate that he is depressed due to his sinful behavior thats conceiveable. but i dont read anything that really says that. and the song is called "I DONT feel very receptive today" because he has an overall sense of numbness due to his isolation and depression. as well as physical sensory deprivation from being locked in a room. |

i dont think this song is about sex at all. i dont see a single line in it that has to do with sex. i think its about a kid trying to fit in but is tired of feeling out of place and just feels like the only way out is to just die. "ten thousand layers of disguise" this is him talking about trying to fit in "what's left that has already worn away" this shows that hes tired of trying to fit in. "Inside this vacant made-up plastic life" him saying they all live a fake life anyways "how long until its my day to die" hes just really depressed and doesnt want to live anymore. "gravity gets to me. holds me here without release" i think this is a way of saying he cant go through with suicide. in the end of the song, i think he does find that his faith is the only way to get through these hard times |

this song seems pretty straight forward. basically its about a guy who is having a hard time quitting a girl and shes very deceptive. shes always lying to him and he knows it but its still hard to leave. "I know your face, I know your smile and how it plays Into the minds of those who cling to every word you say" "By now the lies you told are weighing on your chest If I provide the rope I know you'll do the rest" in this line hes talking about how shes realizing that shes going to lose him and that he's wiseing up to her crap. the second line is the guy saying "i know ur lying and if i bait her i can catch her in her lie" "My eyes are open for the first time " This is him waking up to her lies "I am not a man who lives a life of soldiers I am not the kind of man who walks away" i think this is him still unsure about whether to leave or not. he doesnt live the life of a soldier (a soldier would stand up and fight) but he isnt the kind of man to walk away either "My intentions were to never give myself to anyone, look what I've done" i dont necessarily think this line means he is going to stay with the girl but i just think its him realizing how emotionally drained he is and how much he has given to this girl. |

| modecode has it exactly. the verse in question by most people in this forum is JUST the husband talking to his wife. the wife isnt talking at all. and i like what modecode said for the first verse too. makes complete sense | |

i agree with what lnknprky2k has said for the most part. the song is about going through your life without ever really feeling or doing anything of significance. getting caught up in what society says has value. "we r wasting our lives" (with insignicant stuff) "novocaine" (novocaine is an anesthetic which numbs you. he is saying we have all become numb. we just go on living our meaningless lives and we dont care cuz we cant feel anything) "everything and everyone and in the end we all are one" (i think this is another reference to everyone being the same. nobody willing to step out of their box) "But if we try. To lift up our eyes. Replacing the lies. We own this moment" (I think hes saying, if you do something to make a difference and find yourself. You will own that moment. It will be a beatiful day and a new begining) |

| I love DGD but this song is terrible. I know its supposed to be kinda funny and not taken real serious (at least i'd hope so) but this is just a waist of time. This album is alright but im not diggin the funky dance crap. I listen to them for Kurt's awesome vocals and Will's wicked scream. | |

I guess this song could be about Ben but I dont think so. i think theres too much goin on that doesnt seem to relate to Ben. idk. its sounds to me like a song about a kid, neglected, possibly beaten by his dad. the song starts off as a young boy. "elementary eavedropper". the first verse just basically says he doesnt understand why he isnt loved. and the part where he says "i will follow u until the end" mean the abuse will stay with him through-out his life. which further explains the song progressing through the kids life the second verse is the kid grown up to an adolescent. hes trying to drink away the memories that he cant forget. the part " u only kiss ur cigarette" could be a reference to his dad (his dad never loved him) or it could be that he himself only kisses his cigarette because he was become like his dad. the line "burning down ur home, just to rebuild it again" is another example of the boy becoming his dad. the house is a metaphor for his past, but becuz he is becoming his father, he is rebuilding it again. the third verse starts off with him yelling at his dad.(on the offensive) basically saying his gifts will never fix what he did to him and he basically just venting all his hate and frustration asking "are u happy? how can u be? are u happy with me?" another example of him becoming his dad is the line "by now the roles have been reversed. so you inflict the shit you hated as a kid" i think when he says "i would never steal from u" thats his dad saying i would never steal ur childhood. even tho he has. |
