This is one of those songs that express an emotion you can't pinpoint exactly. Dissapointment and loss of faith in humanity. Hurt but you don't know what you were expecting in the first place. |

| MGMT – Weekend Wars Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I love this band :D I gotta feeling they're gonna be big. Anyways. This song first struck me as about drugs, but I'm most likely wrong. It seems like it could be about a lot of things, especially post-apocalyptic civilization. But here's what caught me as drug references: "Was I? I was to lazy to bathe Or paint or write or try to make a change. Now I can shoot a gun to kill my lunch And I don't have to love or think too much" Lays around and gets nothing done. And this may be a little out there but shooting a gun to kill my lunch reminded me of heroin, shoot up and it kills your appetite. Idk. "Tried to amplify the sound of light and love" Some people try to use drugs or alcohol to make music, drugs, sex, and love to seem better or amplified. "Every mess invested was a score We couldn't use computers anymore It's difficult to win unless you're bored, And you might have to plan for the weekend wars" every mess invested was a score: DRUG DEAL we couldn't use computers anymore: he found other things to do instead of sit around his house on the computer and doing nothing, now he goes out and parties instead. difficult to win unless you're bored: "win" same as "scoring", getting high. you start doing it because you're bored with your life, you want some excitement. and you might have to plan for the weekend wars: weekend wars aka parties. maybe he scores or wins the war when he gets high. "Try to break my heart I'll drive to Arizona. It might take 100 years to grow an arm I'll sit and listen to the sound of sand and cold Twisted diamond heart, I'm the weekend warrior" try to break my heart i'll drive to arizona: try to hurt me, you can't. i'll leave. i don't need you. people get a "fuck it" attitude sometimes when they use drugs. it might take a hundred years to grow an arm: again reminded me of heroin, especially the movie requiem of a dream when jared leto loses him arm at the end from shooting up. the last two lines he could be reflecting about everything outside, alone, maybe in arizona. drugs and partying have changed him but he's become good at the "war". That's what I got out of itttt, still totally not sure. |
