| White Town – Your Woman Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The singer is not a woman. It's on purpose to make the topic a bit ambiguous. Some people interpret it as a man singing to a straight man, or maybe a man reading a breakup letter in a mocking way. | |

While it may be very likely the singer is talking about his daughter, I think it could be any girl in his life that is keeping him grounded. This girl is someone who has a huge influence on him. He knows he has troubles; addiction, violence, anger. Things that keep him close to hell and far from heaven. His father probably has done the same things, and his mother is the one who suffered. Yet this girl, who is young and inexperienced, has this power over him that brings him back from the dark place he goes to. "Hold me down, sweet and low". He's not being held down forcefully, just held in an embrace that reminds him he needs to keep trying. His girl won't give up on him, so he can't give up either. He has to keep trying so he can carry her home and they can be happy. |
