I think this is about why he writes/makes music, ("All I want is a place to call my own,and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone") and how people don't believe in him or are being pessimistic about his future.. or even critical of his work ("While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead But just what the hell do they think they know?" & "everyone's always judging me. I'm not afraid of anything, and I've got the whole world in front of me"). Thaaaat's my take on it :) |

I feel that this song is about two people starting out in a relationship still bearing the burden of past hurts from old relationships.. They have to try and grow together and be better for each other.. Sort of like supporting each other cause they know they're both still so vulnerable and insecure, but they really want to make it work? That's how I relate to it anyway. :) |

This song reminds me so much of the relationship between my mother and I.. it's pretty much spot on. (I think) it is about someone who expects too much of you.. after a while you wear down, tear away from it. They still nag at you about it, but you just don't give a s***. You just let their words wash over you and you keep living the way you are. It sounds like he has some self destructive habits as well. I'm the same way, if I'm upset, I self destruct somehow. Drink too much, smoke too much.. Love this band. |

Kay, I relate to this at the moment. (In my opinion) it is about being sick of the people you associate with and realising you have no actual ties to them. It's about wanting to get away from all of that and have space to yourself. It describes that low point, where every imaginable thing gets worse and worse and you cannot stand anyone or anything and you need to escape. Lovelovelove Weezer. |

But I am a girl, and I can relate perfectly to this song, from the guy's perspective. I used to be in this relationship where I would give, and give, and give, and he only ever wanted to be like a boyfriend to me when he was drunk. Everyone can get used. It's not gender-defined. It was very close-minded of you to insinuate so, no offence. So let's just celebrate the fact that Offspring can create a song that we can all connect to, enjoy, and use to help us move on and find happiness. =) |

Okay. I can see where the prostitute thing comes in. But I think it's about drugs use. E.g; "each one lining up to take it home" "praying no one has to see them fall" "Saturday nights in neon lights" - Hallucinations, perhaps. "Sunday in the cell" - either getting busted or being drug-f**ked. Also could be paranoia or schizophrenia as an adverse effect of drugs. "Take me to the riot" - 'Riot' could mean being high... When it says "and let me stay" makes me think that the person is unhappy and wants to stay high so that they don't have to worry about their problems. "You sprung me, I'm grateful", their partner finding out about their habit, and they feel kind of relieved, so they don't have to keep the secret. So yeah. There was some more but that will do. That felt like a school assignment. But actually interesting. =] |
