Matt Nathanson – Maid Lyrics 23 years ago
If you are looking for a song to download, download “Maid” by Matt Nathanson. It’s really beautiful, and I can tell you why. (*it’s light rock if you like that sorta thing)

It’s basically the saddest story ever told, that’s prolly happened to the worst of us.
“Your face/I look at your face and it’s changed since we last spoke/It’s weathered and beautiful/So weathered and so beautiful” You might be thinking, weathered…that’s not much of a compliment. But you’ll see.

“Please have a seat/I was going anyway/But that can wait/Because I’d rather have you here while I can/Then I’ll pack it all up and take you with me again” Now that’s really beautiful, that a guy would give up all his plans for the girl he loves.

“I wasn’t like anyone else/So real and so strong, so you said/It’s always,” welcome back, I’ll take your bags”/Things haven’t changed much since you left my side/And though your room has been unoccupied.” Basically though the girl left, he still loves her “things haven’t changed” and he hasn’t moved on to other people “your room has been unoccupied. (I feel exactly the same way when I’m attached to a person.

“My ears are always open to your laments/And my will is always weak for your advances…” and then it says “…So here are my ears again/And here are my arms/And here are my hopes again/Just please keep coming back” Isn’t that sad? That he would wait for her like that even though she left? It’s so beautiful. I wish I had a guy that did that.

Now the weathered part was a metaphor. In the very first lines of the song he says “Hello, my foul weathered friend” So basically he’s kinda mad that she left I’m guessing because of the ‘foul’. “These thick sheets of rain/Seem to have hindered your way again/And the winds/I can feel the winds/They’ve gotten so strong/No wonder you’re back to our home” Do you get it? She’s basically in a storm, and she has nowhere to go, but one place. And that’s to the guy that loves her. And the storm has made her weathered, and yet “Beautiful”. But it’s all a metaphor. Maybe she’s emotionally weathered. Or some other reason..I’m not sure. And yet it doesn’t even matter, because he’ll accept her back no matter what. That’s how much he loves her.

It’s just so beautiful. I hope that you at least give it a try.

Even the mere title is perfect. Because he *is* playing the maid, and cleaning up this messed up relationship.
