The Au Pairs – headache for michelle Lyrics 6 years ago
I as well wish there were more comments on this song.

I've always thought this song was about someone waking up the day after binging on drugs - probably heroin. But there are also a lot of references here to government control. I believe there is something here having to do with keeping political radicals on drugs so that they have less political motivation. I just wish I knew what the line about selling you smack at slightly different rate was all about. I assume that it's another reference to the government, but I want more details.

Kate Bush – Surrender Into the Roses Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm guessing this must be based on some story in literature, as many of Kate's songs are/ Does anyone know who Camilla is? Is there some vampire reference here? (the garlic)

Kate Bush – And Dream of Sheep Lyrics 15 years ago
I just want to say that I am so enlightened by everyone's interpretation of this song, and how helpful it is to me, Theresa's contributions in particular. This song is so much clearer to me now.

I think that as a whole, the Ninth Wave is like a wizard of oz or Alice in wonderland kind of story. A journey, and adventure to a scary exciting world. In And Dream of Sleep and Under Ice, the protagonist falls into another world (like Alice down the hole, or Dorothy into the twister.) There is danger there (Waking the witch) and the protagonist is trying to get home (Watching You Without Me is like when Dorothy sees Auntie Em in the crystal ball, but Auntie Em can't hear her).
The Morning Fog is like the return home (Dorothy back in Kansas with her family, Alice back home as well.)

There must be a reason why these kinds of stories resonate with so many people. This piece of work (the ninth wave) is such an amazing journey for me. Kate is such an astoundingly brilliant artist.

Slow Motion Reign – Space Lyrics 15 years ago
Also, it seems the woman in the song has committed suicide, which is why I don't get the reference to fire in the end. If someone has any idea, please let me know. This song completely haunts me.

Patti Smith – Birdland Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is based on a book called "A Book of Dreams" which is the memoirs of Peter Reich. Peter was the son of Wilhelm Reich, a contraversial psychiatrist and inventor who, in 1947, was imprisoned for his work and a year later died of heart failure while serving his sentence. The moment described in the song comes after the death of Peter's father, and some of the elements are actually in the book; such as Peter seeing his father come down in a UFO. It's a fascinating book.

One other interesting point: this is not the only song based on "A Book of Dreams" Kate Bush also wrote a song about Peter and Wilhelm Reich called "Cloudbusting."

Kate Bush – Cloudbusting Lyrics 15 years ago
"A Book of Dreams" is a facsinating book, I read it years ago. One very interesting thing about "Cloudbusting" is that it is not the only song based on "A Book Of Dreams." Patti Smith's "Birdland" (from her first album) is also based on the same book. Smith's song focuses on one part of the book when the boy is walking outdoors on the grounds of the family home after the father's funeral. The boy looks up and sees his father alive in a spaceship. There are many parts in the book that are surreal, even though on the surface it's the son's real memoirs. I recommend that anyone who likes this song check out Patt's song as well.
