At the risk of sounding like one of the people i despise the most, this song describes my life perfectly right now. Maybe its my situation and my mind making it fit. But this is how i see it. He's not got much confidence in himself due to his past but he knows this girl who he's beyond crazy about. But this girl is unsure about him for many reasons- distance, past relationships etc So she's scared of getting hurt and is messing him around alot because she can't make her mind up if she wants him or not. This is just dragging out and on and on and he's going out of his mind cos all he wants is her and just wishes it was easier by her feeling the same way. He's tryed everything to convince her he's not like the other guys. He knows that he should just walk away but he can't bare to walk away because all he can do is hang on for this girl cos all he can think about is her but he knows its never gonna happen. But its better than the alternative of nothingness. Hope sometimes is all you have to get you through the dark clouds. He loves her, she loves him but can only be his friend, so naturally he "Wants more" I kinda feel a link to Skin of my teeth because I think thats along a similar line the whole "lost my luck" thing and the theme of not allowing your hopes to get up because you know your not wanted but still you cling because there is always that chance that someone wants you and you dont have to live without this person. |

Simply stunning!! I adore this more than anything at the moment. When I saw him the other year he did this and collapsed on stage like bowie use to back in the day. He sat and cried on stage to the fade out at the end. I was in floods myself. It was such a special moment to share. To cry with Morrissey at the same time. Anyway can anyone else see the sping heeled jim reference??? "Once always in for the kill Now it's too cold And he feels too old Too old Mmm, old..." Or is that me seeing something not there again? I guess maybe only so many words rhmye with old and cold lol! |

Hey hey I got this songs comment virginity lol! I love this song so much, probably one of my fav Duke songs. Its just that accent makes my tummy go funny every single time lol! Anyway, the meaning. I kinda get from it, that its a sort of self depreciating song. Personally, I fell that he has done wrong to the one he loves, possible domestic violence??? Stained your dress, and bruised you too? But he has done this while drunk: Stumbling undignified He is trying to make amends but he knows he will just get drunk again and do it all again tomorrow: My promises are paper thin Swallow up your joy So hes saying to carry him low cos thats all he's worth cos this person loves him no matter what he does to them. And maybe he feels like hes exploiting them?? I dont know. Sorry such a waffle monster when i get going :) |

| Yeah I do think its a relationship that has ended. Maybe its his old self hatred coming through a touch too. Could be that he's blaming himself, that when he had everything he wanted hes fucked it up and lost it all and is an empty shell unable to think about anybody else other than the person who he loves more than anything else in the world ever, or that could just be me :( | |
