| There's a couple of God references or some higher spirit to change the feeling/atmosphere that he's experiencing. I didn't realize how depressing this song was until I read the lyrics. You can't really understand them when they're song, but the sounds are nice. | |

| Also, the point about Catcher in the Rye made by jonesy9020 is right on. I think that's what I was trying to get at in my last paragraph. | |

I agree with Knife 10.21 in practically everything he writes. I'll just say what I think this: "you don’t mind seeing yourself in a picture as long as you look faraway, as long as you look removed" means. I'm still in my angsty teenage years, and everytime I see anyone, they remark on my face, how it's always blank and disinterested. I do this on purpose most of the times because it's what I feel inside (as stupid and lame as that might sound). It's also kind of in fashion to be removed from people, or glamorized by books and television and such. And you know those pictures of bands, where they're all sad and their heads droop between their shoulders and they look so depressed? That's what I think the person is striving to look like in the pictures. The ones where they're all looking somewhere else, or they're looking at the camera but their eyes are devoid of any emotion. This is what the person in the song wants to look like, except it sounds like they're trying to hard. But I guess we all try in some way to be this way or that. The whole mistaken for strangers thing is just great, though. It's like these people you've never known, who you call your friends, forget about you. But the person is happy to be alone. It holds a sort of glamor and mystique to be the loner, or the outcast. But the person finds out adult life isn't so great and that we all feel like outcasts anyway. yeah. |
