| Pretty Balanced – The Romeo and Julia Song [or] Why'd You Come Lyrics

I'm not a big fan of the actual story of Romeo and Juliet, but this song is so beautiful. I love Juliet's perspective. I also love the emotion in her voice and the steady pounding of the piano at the beginning.I think they did a great job of capturing her pain and frustration. Great song, great band. I hope to hear more from them! |

This song is absolutely beautiful. Rufus's voice is amazing and I think his talent really shines in this song. Especially the verses "The last time I saw you..." you can hear the pain and longing in his voice and it makes me cry. It's so deep and moving. And I know he didn't write the song himself, nor did he sing it originally, but I think this was a wonderful song for him to cover. The song itself is beautiful, and I love the meanings and ideas and symbolism behind it. It's actually based off of Plato's "Symposium" I believe. Regardless, this is by far the best cover he has ever done and it so beautiful. He is a truly gifted man! :] |

I never thought this song was about a girl with a terminal illness. I always thought of two kids who had grown up together, the best of friends, and watched their friendship turn into romance as it often does. He is truly and deeply in love with her and wants to be her last first kiss. A beautiful way of saying I want to be with you forever and no one else, not necessarily a marriage proposal per say, although it's a possibility. Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics, beautiful music. Anberlin is a very talented band :] |

Sounds a bit like he's falling for a girl who's leading him on. It sounds like she's fully aware of the fact that she's sending him mixed signals, hence the "steal a kiss yet call us friends." Almost like she simply enjoys the chase more than the prize (playing the game of love for the rush rather than playing to win someone's heart.) She is playing with his emotions and is only there to break his heart. But in the end, he realizes this and walks away "I only stand to break your heart, You can tell it by the way I run away." I think I've been in both positions. I've had someone lead me on, and I've done the leading. But it wasn't to purposely hurt someone, things just didn't turn out the way they were expected to. Either way, amazing song! Anberlin is such a great band! |

I am in love with the song! I love the wit and clever wording. "He told me he liked Turner
Never have I turned since then
No, never have I turned to any other man" Genius! And the lines "He asked us what our favorite work of art was, But never could I tell it was him" are great too! And "here I am in this uniformish pant suit sort of thing." makes me crack up every time I hear it! Gahhh, his voice is stunning in this song!! (Well, it always is of course.) This song just makes me melt :] |

I think this song can apply to anyone, regardless of whether or not you're a Christian or not. I am in fact a Christian and I like making the connections to God and prayer and not giving up. But I also make the connections on the same level of not giving up on life. I think instead of arguing whether or not Anberlin is infact a Christian band, take the lyrics for what they are. Go by your own interpretation and apply it to your own life. That's the beauty of poetry and music.
This song is amazing, so peaceful and beutiful. Anberlin is an awesome band! |

This is a very powerful song. And about the "character" who committed suicide after being in the war, I remember my history teacher talking about a friend of his who was in a war. He said there wasn't a night he didn't wake up screaming. I see this as a song covering four different instances of suicide. These people have had all they can take and no longer wish to go on. Very sad. But also very aware. Yet another great Alk3 song. |

I'm not entirely sure what this song is about, although the description wingsofasongbird gave is correct. I think I may have read that somewhere also. Anwyays, I love this song. I love the violins and the beat. It's such a beutiful soothing song, one of my favorites when I'm feeling down. Rufus is such a musical genius! But I'll refrain from pointing out the obvious :] |

I think this song is about humans being creatures of flesh and appreances. We're all made of the same structures, inside and out. And we all tend to focus on our outward appearances. Which is why I love the lines "I have been blessed and now I'm blind.
A veil's been pulled over my eyes." To me, those lines are saying now that I am no longer to see the person on the outside, I am able to see the person for who they are on the inside. I think sometimes we need to be able to look past someone's putward appearances completely and see them for who they are. I don't know, just my thought. |

I agree with thox rendar on this song. Often times you find with Christiantiy, or any religion, that sometimes faith means believing in something you can't understand or explain. With science, everything has a reason and a purpose. But with Christianity, sometimes things just "are." And even though they realize that there may be doubts and questions in their minds, in their hearts they believe and they know it's true. Great song! |

I think this song is about how short life truly is. "You really only get one chance." As human beings we are mortal and only have one chance to live, to love, and to fear. And I think this song is saying you should live life to the fullest, find love, conquer your fears, and see what's out there. "Space is all you've got." Makes me think of the fact that with all our technology, it feels like we've already discovered everything out there and the only uncertainity left is space. (Although I hope that this isn't true, I think there's a lot in the world we have left to find.) All in all, I think this is an inspirational song telling us that we need to get over our fears and "fly." Good song and the video is really cute! |

I think this song is all about reflection. Perhaps reflecting back on a past relationship or one possibly coming to an end. I love the lines "Hands like secrets are the hardest thing to keep from you." Whether he means physically keeping his hands from or helping hands, this line is genius. "Lines and phrases like knives, your words can cut me through." He takes what she says to heart, and the hurtful words cut through him. The lines "If life had background music
Playing your song
I've got to be honest, I tried to escape you
But the orchestra plays on" make me think of when you've just broken up with someone and no matter how hard you try, they continue to occupy your thoughts and haunt you. This song is amazing either way! This was the second song I hear by Anberlin (first was Day Late Friend) but this is the song that really got me into them. They are a really great band!! But I'm sure I didn't have to tell you all that :] |

I agree with KMJ08. It seems to me that he's talking about or rather to himself in this song. I love this song. It's so beautiful and simple and elegant. I even taught myself how to play part of it on the piano :] I don't know why, but when I first listened to Release The Stars this song hit me for some reason. |

I agree, I think the lyric is "Come let this man adore you." Anywho, I really like the reference to Hansel and Gretel and the overall feel of the song. I think he's saying, maybe I'll learn to believe in you and trust you, but I have to do it crumb by crumb, or bit by bit, little by little. And suddenly, they are the keys to each others' gardens, but both are gloomy and unruly. So maybe he realizes that even though he is the key to a happiness of some sort, unless he can learn to love and trust that person, his "garden" so to speak will remain unruly until that person can come and spruce it up a bit. :] I don't know, just my thought. |

This song IS my ringtone! The irony of "my phone's on vibrate for you" as an audible ringer just kills me! XD
Anywho, I adore this song. It's so simple yet elegant. And I love the lines "My phone's on vibrate for you
But still I never ever feel from you
Pinocchio's now a boy
Who wants to turn back into a toy" Gotta love the inspiration for this song!! Silly Rufus. :] |

I love Rufus's version of this song! It suits him so well! I love the horns and the cymbals, they compliment his voice so well.
(I found him through Hallelujah from Shrek. My friend downloaded the song and then I did and I instantlly fell in love with his voice. I still remember, after that song I downloaded April Fools and The One You Love. And that's where my Rufus obsession started. :] The man is a beautiful genius and so inspirational!! Just thought I would share my Rufus experience.) |

I think in this song he is reflecting on a past relationship. I think it may have been the first time he felt truly in love, or he may just now be realizing he was in fact, in love with this person. "and I do believe I saw your true love burning next to me. But now there's ashes." They had a burning passion for each other, but the flame has died away and all that's left now are the ashes of what they once had together. |

| Rufus Wainwright – Baby Lyrics

I'm thinking this song may contain references to his crystal meth addiction. He temporarily lost his eyesight while he was addicted, so perhaps the lines " And since then I can't see straight
And since then my smile's been fake
Funny I know the troubles I've seen
But through one eye only that's clean" refer to that. His "baby" could be a lover of his, or it's possible he's referring to the drug itself. Either way, this is a beautiful song. |

I didn't listen to this song much at first, but it's really begun to grow on me. I'm not entirely sure what this song is about. It's obvious referring to an addiction of some sort, whether it be drugs, alcohol, or a person. I think this may be one of those songs that means one thing when it's written, and something entirely different to the listener. But that's what I love about his music. It can be interpreted and applied in many different ways. |

I agree also with many of the previous posts. I feel that society puts such pressure on love. Love is everything and almost everyone is searching for it. And we all have this grand concept of how wonderful and perfect and completing love is. But what Rufus says is all too true. We all do believe in love and how great it is, but then we come to find, it tends to end in pain and grief. "And you will believe in love
All all that its supposed to be
But just until the fish start to smell
And you're struck down by a hammer" One of my all time favorites of his. I also love how despite the lyrics being sad, the song itself is upbeat. The man is a genius!! |

I absolutley LOVE this song!! No matter how I'm feeling or what's bothering me, this song somehow always cheers me up. I think one of the main obvious points is selling out. "You said watch my head about it." could very possibly be refering to selling out and becoming something other than what you are to please the masses. He also talks about designer clothes and sunglasses and the like, and how important they've become. And eventually he realizes, he's become something else, something unwanted. "Once you've fallen from classical virtue," and "I did go from wanting to become something, now I'm drunk and wearing flip flops on Fifth Avenue." And that line especially, I agree with tubesocks on. Sometimes you have this perfect picture in mind and eventually things don't turn out as you planned. I think there's many layers to this song, and it can be interpreted in many different ways. And that's the beauty of Rufus's music. :] |
