| and it's "bahá’u’lláh, Buddha, God, to the mountaintop and I'm traveling" NOT gautama buddha, god...etc. | |

the line says "Studying the Dharma, Karma of vipassana practice" NOT "Studying the Dharma, Karma of a pastor and his practice" why the fuck would he be mentioning a pastor in a song that is clearly about meditation? |

also when she says "and while you hurt with all that pain, the sky will kiss your pretty face" it kind of speaks to me that the person who died was obviously hurting, which is why they would take their own life, and then the belief that they will be greeted after death by something beautiful. i guess i just am relating it this way because my best friend just committed suicide, and this song speaks so clearly about it to me. |

i agree with the death statements, however, i believe it is more specifically a suicide. the lines "nobody has to to stay, but we wish they would anyway" say to me that people have the option of staying or going, but we would prefer that they stay. and the lines "sister make a flower place, a mother, father, brother grace" kind of seem to me that the person who died was younger. not many funeral include both the siblings and the parents unless the death was premature, which is usually suicide in cases of younger people. the line "sister make a flower place" just kind of gently paints the image of maybe a younger sister for some reason. i also know mirah is from washington state, where the suicide rate there in unbelievably high (in seattle, particularly) |

| Mayday Parade – If You Wanted a Song Written About You, All You Had to Do Was Ask Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
parts of this song only are about a girl. my boyfriend's friends with the ex-lead singer, Jason, and we were talking about the meaning of this song just last night actually. "And you dropped the note and we changed key You changed yourself and I changed me I really didn't see us singing through this Then you screamed the bridge And I cried the verse And our chorus came out unrehearsed Then you smiled the whole way through it I guess maybe that's what's worse Take me home I'd rather die than be with you Take me home You have a problem with the truth Take me home Because this happens Every time I knew it would I knew it would (x2) And I hope this makes you happy now That the flame we had is burning out And I hope you like your pictures facing down As even broken hearts may have their doubts" this entire part was written IN THE STUDIO as they were recording. it was written by jason about derek, the other vocals member. they had been fighting a lot lately and jason decided to leave the band, but said he would finish recording the album before he left. and as they were working on this song, he sat down and wrote those verses. it's about how they were fighting all the time and struggling through the entire recording session. also, jason has been in a lot of bands that always just crash and burn, hence the "Because this happens Every time I knew it would" and the whole "I really didn't see us singing through this" is about how he almost didn't finish recording with mayday parade because he really couldn't stand all the bullshit and drama going on, and he almost left before they finished the album. I think this gives the song a lot more intensity, just imagining jason and derek having to work together on this song where jason's lyrics are blatantly calling out derek. I guess when they recorded the vocals to those verses and the rest of the band heard it, they were completely silent and there was definitely tension in the air. so yes, the song started out about a faulty relationship until jason jotted down these verses, in the studio, and it fit the song perfectly. so that's that. |
