| I should add--there are plenty of other lines in the song that could fit the meaning I've assigned above: "Hurricane coming all around us / Double crack throws you back from the window, you stay low" could clearly be a reference to gunfire and fighting. | |

I'm sure this is far too specific to be completely accurate, but I could see how this song is about any number of on-going conflicts in the Middle East. The majority of the song--including the opening lines--could be talking about a wounded or endangered woman on the "enemy" side of the conflict. The man is on the "attacking" side. He sees her and wants to help her but it's clear that she doesn't trust him. All she has to do is tell him that she can help him, and he will. It gets a bit more explicit toward the end. "It all began with a man & country / Every plan turns another century / Around again, another nation fallen" seems to me like a clear reference to Israel and Palestine or America and Iraq/Afghanistan. "Maybe God can be on both sides / Of the gun, never understood why / Some of us never get it so good, so good" talks about how neither side is right for fighting--how God cares about both of them, how unfair it is that some people end up on the side that gets attacked through no fault of their own. "Some of this was here before us / All of this will go after us / It never stops until we give in" to me, means these types of conflicts will go on forever until both sides admit that fighting won't solve anything. |
