Thankyou for correcting it. Jesus.
Anyway the song is that she was with a guy who cheated on her. But she had such an unconditional love for him she wouldn't let him go, but he kept doing it again and hurting her over and over again.
This song is absolutely beautiful and I lve singing to it and when I listen hard enough I cry because I feel her loss. |

| Fiona Apple – The Child Is Gone Lyrics

Originally I thought this song was more like her leaving a relationship with more experience and maturity. Child referring to innocence.
Though the miscarriage thing does makes sense but I don't think it's fiona's style. When she says she ran her hand down a strange inversion, a vacancy that just did not belong, the child is gone. That really makes sense, of that she was pregnant and now doesn't even have that comfort. Then the rest of the song would referr to the father, and she feels stop sypathizing because there's nothing you can do. But she also contradicts herself so I think she goes through different phases. Honey help me out of this mess, I'm a stranger to myself, don't reach for me, I'm too far away, don't bother talking cuz there's nothing left to say. But I still think it's about a relationship as are most of her songs. |

This poem is simply about survival.
"I must go on standing" is clearly what a survivor would say. Not someone suicidal.
I think she's in some sort of monarchy government for when she says "It's not my own, It's not my choice." and also because of the military sound of the piano. She says to be aware of everything because she wants to survive and be strong through it all and not let anything detract from her spirit. Inherit refers to not wanting to die. It's not literal. This song put in modern context could be about any societal issue she has a problem with. |

I think the story plot that melanie came up with is great too. I never understood what west meant before. When she says the truth is you'll be okay anyway is refferring to no matter what she's going to die so it's just a matter of style. But she never has the limo ride, it's a dream within a dream and then she dies. |

I think Chemo Limo is an extended metaphor for a mom having a financial crisis. It feels like cancer. The whole house is different, the mood changes as if she was dieing. Her referring to go out in style means that she doesn’t want her kids to know that she’s suffering. Every parent takes pride in being a provider, and it hurts to know that you failed. “I had a dream crispy crispy Benjamin Franklin took care of my kids, and had a talk with my boss,” means she had a dream money took care of her and her kids. Though it also could mean what everyone else said too. |
