Unlike the vast majority of Bush songs, the music here is happy and fun. I wonder if there is a specific ex in mind when he sings this song... I'll flip to track 12 and listen to it on occasion because I can relate to this. |

This song always makes me think about going through a state of depression after the ending of a very meaningful relationship, and the cloud is a state of temporary relief from the depressing hole. Thus, not wanting to come down from the cloud...I'm probably wrong, but that's what it means to me. And that's what is so great about a lot of Bush songs. You can draw many different meanings from the same song because the lyrics are so abstract. |

I love most Bush's songs. I think what I love most is that most of the verses are so abstract that many meanings can be found by different people in different situations. This song though, is my absolute favorite. The word Glycerine makes me think of nitroglycerine which makes me think that it might be about an unstable relationship, that for whatever reason, blew up in his face, and this song is a lamentation over the loss of that relationship. |
