| Devo – Bottled Up Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's about relieving stress. Based on the sexual deviant motif throughout their early works, maybe it's about futility and masturbating. I always thought the "unbottling" sound is reminiscent of bubbling water bong. | |
| The Fall – An Older Lover Etc. Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This analyzation found here: http://www.dailyreckless.co.uk/fall/archive/80.htm "Never trust your friendly agony aunt seems to be the message here. They're always ready with a stock response, hence the 'etc' and interchangeable 'older' or 'younger' lover. Beware of the older lover, though, who may ply you with rancid tales of carefree sex from back in the 60s. Plus, she'll 'shag you out on the table.' The screamed refrain' Doctor Annabel lies!' is a highlight here. Apart from wondering if there ever was an Agony Aunt called Dr Annabel, the last line is confoundingly enigmatic - 'the future autolytic enzyme son.' I know autolytic enzyme refers to self-digestion, but should 'son' be that great British red top, 'The Sun'? I only ask cos the Dr's face has French Fries on it, suggesting the paper/magazine she's in is being used to wrap chips in, traditional style. " |

| The Fall – Telephone Thing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I certainly like this song. It seems he is expressing a phone paranoia, a paranoia of the interconnectedness it brings, and the lack of privacy with that. Perhaps about phones, or everything in general. In a sort of Luddite like way. By the way the reference to Gretchen Franklin supposedly was an accident as quoted from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gretchen_Franklin#Trivia "In Fall song 'Telephone Thing', Mark E Smith repeatedly asks 'How dare you assume I would want to parlez-vous with you? You Gretchen Franklin nosey matron type.' In an interview for the NME Mark E Smith revealed that he had thought he had made the name up and that it wasn't a reference to this Gretchen Franklin ' It seems she is a pretty prominent British actress. I wonder if it really was an accident or if he just said that to throw people off. |

| Mr. Bungle – Definition of Shapes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is about opinions, it edges on existentialism. Basically, nothing has a set definition, one mans god is another mans slave, it's all a matter of your point of view (light refracted by different densities, which is ideas from different points of view.) The whole shape concept is that we are just drawing a shape that encompasses all the morals we want, not a shape that encompasses everything out there. |
