The song is about a relationship that didn't work out ("I worked so hard for this love of mine / Still I got nothing to show for it"). However they're still a part of each other's lives, and they still care about each other ("You're a lovely creation and I like to think that I am too"). The problem is that they just don't work in a relationship ("You plus me is bad news"). He still has a strong effect on her ("Tongue tied and twisted... go to my head") and they still get together, but it only ends up hurting her. But he's like an addiction and she keeps coming back for more ("Okay we'll do it your way"). I love this part: "You love the chase but hate me for the runaround We both just tired of the whole thing You tell me what you want you need you know you have to have And I just pretend I'm listening" This is what was wrong with the relationship... he only wants her when he has to "chase" after her, but she's so willing to be his that the chase element is lost. And she doesn't listen to him when he tells her what he needs/wants. |
