age of consent refers to a point in life where a decision must be made and you're old enough to realize the impact of deciding according to how YOU want to decide... the "crucial point" is that moment in all those times when we know that answering one way may cause loss.....in other words, we've reached a point in life where decisions become similar to "crimes" because they have hurtful consequences. in the song's case it's obvious a guy a dumps a girl and she's sad about it. he's been pressuring her to give in to him and she's refused...he's tried to coax her and even pressure her into it and she's held firm...she's old enough to know what HE wants and she's not going to give in just because he wants it... she's at a point where she knows she doesn't have to answer him the way he wants...she knows what she wants and she knows it's going to cause loss. the first line indicates what the result was. he tells her "please let me go"...he's dumping her. they hurt her........BUT.......she's passionate about not being pressued into what he was pressuring her to do - and she tells him so. she lets him know she's not confused why he dumped her and she let's him know that he'll regret dumping her for that. in the last lines she's talking about the inescapability of serious consequences when you are mature enough to make impactful decisions that sometimes result in loss....in spite of the losses, guess what, she's not one that's going to give in to pressure ....she's her own person and at an age where she can consent to what she wants. |

people should not be allowed to comment on the lyrics if they're coming from a gears of war 2 ad. the lyrics are not meant for that game, the lyrics truly do no apply to the game. the song is not about a soldier going into battle or anything related to a battle or dying for a war cause.. |

i've been listening to this song over and over for 3 days straight now trying to figure out what the hell the lyrics are trying to say and i think i finally have an explanation that makes sense of all the lines. the confusing part in understanding this song is that the song speaks not to one entity but two...but ultimately to one. there is a parallelism in the shape of an upside down pyramid where there are two lives dying in different times yet eventually end up awakening to the same life. this is why the song was hard to interpret - because it's about a faithful person dying and an important person in history dying at the same time. divide the song into 3 parts. FAITH in the first two parts the structure is the same: the first lines are spoken to the faithful person dying...the middle lines are spoken to both.....the third is spoken to jesus about to die on the cross. i'm not a religious person but this song is about this. listen to the lyrics in the structure i've described. DEATH in the second part, again, the first two lines are spoken to faithful person about the inevitability of death but also that death as an eternal idea is something the faithful don't dread (because of the reward of heaven). the middle lines, again, are for both the faithful person and jesus (imagine God speaking to Jesus on the cross). a soul poked a million times is a symbol for what happened to jesus on the cross but also for someone whose faith has been tested many times but survived it. the third line is spoken for both... it's time to die and for you both to join me. HEAVEN here is the promise of what God himself gives to both Jesus and the faithful person who died. each line can be spoken to both entities. read each line and you'll see how God could have easily spoken each line to Jesus and the faithful person at separate times.... |

| Muse – Sing for Absolution Lyrics | 17 years ago |

this song is a cry for sympathy and possible redemption. symbollically, it can be adam & eve singing to god and metaphorically can be applied to many times in a human's life where he has scorned the love of something by failing and is now without redemption. lips are turning blue a kiss that can't renew I only dream of you my beautiful the singer is explaining how god's affection has long gone cold to a point where it is frozen and dead. where once, his love could inspire, give life, renew - now it provides nothing because it gives nothing. reminiscing of times past, the singer says to god that he envisions that wonderful life next to him again. tiptoe to your room a starlight in the gloom I only dream of you and you never knew the singer figuratively describes sneaking into god's room which can only make sense if he's not wanted there. to walk carefully and stealthily into his room implies he's not wanted...like a punished child going into his parents room. he knows the light is there, forgiveness is there, a return to how it used to be is there. he tells god as even though he acted in a way that could be interpreted as not wanting god, that he does in fact dream of returning even though he probably never admitted it. and now, he's telling god directly...i'm here now, begging you to forgive me. and i know the longer i'm here, the more you'll reproach me because i'm a beggar and i'm begging you to forgve sing for absolution I will be singing falling from your grace and now the singer complains about his state of being. that he can't get away from his transgressions and he's reminded by it simply by not having god at his side. he can't hide from god because god is actually who the transgression is against. he can't talk to him about because god no longer allows him to. the shame he has inside will not go away. in the end, after begging via the chorus he implies that he's been begging either eternally or for a very long time and the result is: the sins have not been forgiven and consequently he will remain damned. again, this can be applied to many relationships between a host and guest, giver and taker, parent child such as man and earth, earth and universe, mother and child, etc. what do you think? stevenm_aris@hotmail.com thanks! tiptoe to your room a starlight in the gloom I only dream of you and you never knew sing for absolution I will be singing falling from your grace there's nowhere left to hide in no one to confide the truth runs deep inside and will never die lips are turning blue a kiss that can't renew I only dream of you my beautiful sing for absolution I will be singing falling from your grace sing for absolution I will be singing falling from your grace our wrongs remain unrectified and our souls won't be exhumed |
