Rivers Cuomo has an asian fetish - for young girls. The other Weezer band members are known to leave him well alone when they are in japan as he's getting some underage action from groupies whenever they go there. Great song but a bit creepy when you know what it's about. |

Standing Outside A Telephione Booth With Money In My Hand: the title alone makes it a somewhat spiritual song. It's about material considerations weighing down our ideals and dreams. Jan is dreaming that Mother Theresa 'joined the mob and is happy with her fulltime job', a betrayal of her sacrosanct ideals in the name of material security. Although our minds are free to dream and have ideas to live by (the change in the title's hand) life's obligations and limitations curb them down until all is left is material considerations (the broken phone). |

If you don't like this song you don't like music -- it's as simple as that. The first guitar riff is probably my favourite riff ever, better than Master of Puppets or Enter Sandman. That crazy bass sound as the beginning is so badass and has been sampled by DJ Shadow. And for the record I'm more into electro/house these days but this just rocks so hard and so deep I just fucking love it. No metal band has been able to match this depth. Even if I don't like what they're doing these days, pre-90's Metallica has established them as one of the best band of the century. |

I remember we had compulsory music class and once we had to learn a song to sing in front of the whole class and I chose this so I was just standing there for 10 minutes and i just said the poem in the middle. That was like 13 years ago. Jesus Christ we got old. Song still rules though. |

Now that people have stopped arguing over it, let's celebrate this song for what it is: an astounding tune that shut many a metal-hater up with awesome guitar work and incredible composition. As for the comparison with Orion -- although I dook like Orion best they are very different: Call of Ktulu seems to tell a story while Orion feels more like a trip through space. Just how it feels like to me. Anyway I used to listen to these guys in the early 90s and I'm just getting back into them now and all this pre-black album stuff has held up really well, makes all that nu-metal stuff sound so boring and flat.
Anyway, oldschool Metallica fans or youngsters who like them alike, I don't care if you've moved on or cut your hair or whatever, put the kids to bed then put some Metallica on crack open a beer and headbang until you remember. \m/ |
