| Alice in Chains – When the Sun Rose Again Lyrics | 15 years ago |

c0de7, it seems more likely that it would be "prey" as he is saying that when you become prey to the predators (people trying to screw you over), you squeal when you are caught. I see this song as a mourning to the inevitable loss of morals that we all face. "We all trade in never-befores, selling out for the score" suggests trading in the high morals that we all possess as children to do the things that most people fall victim to, ie - losing your virginity, smoking, scoring drugs, etc. These are the never-befores that we haven't tried, and we sell out by giving up our sense of who we are and what we stand for to try something new. Looking at the first word of lines from the verses, it goes "Run, hide, prey, cry, hate, negative." As in, you 'run' and 'hide' from these choices, but when you eventually fall 'prey' to the vices, you will 'cry'. It will lead to 'hate' toward yourself and those who put you up to it, and over time, people become very 'negative' through all of their bad experiences. "It seems you prophesized all of this would end. Were you burned away when the sun rose again?" addresses the fact that when we look to the world, we see the pain and corruption and always think, "it won't be me." Our fate to fall like everyone else was prophesized as we see everyone fall before us. And then he asks if it would kill you to be just another victim to the loss of morals, which is as common and predictable as the sun rising everyday. At least, that is my take on it. |

| The Dead Weather – Rocking Horse Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is an account on the loss of innocence and the detriment of bad decisions. The "I've done some bad things and they get easier to do" verse shows that it is a slippery descent into evil. The "...sent it to the Lord..." verse discusses loss of religion as a way to cope with your choices, because you don't want to believe in something that would personally damn you. The third verse discusses how hard it is to care for others once you don't care for yourself. The fourth verse discusses the teetering that occurs when you are given the ultimatum to quit the bad habits/evil deeds, and the difficult choice it can pose. The fifth verse discusses that once you decide you can't quit your actions because you have lost yourself in them, you will push the world you knew and everyone you cared about away. The final verse signifies the full division between the sinful and the innocent and how the sins consume and eventually define you, as the singer can no longer look at those with more pure souls. | |
| The Dead Weather – Hang You from the Heavens Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think this is about a broken relationship. The love is gone and it has bred contempt and abuse from both parties. The singer keeps trying to end the relationship but can't end it ("one step forward and back three"). So instead they stay together and walk a path to self-destruction by staying together when they want to drag each other to the devil. | |
| The Killers – Forget About What I Said Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I see it as the narrator singing to a girl he dated a while ago. He wants to take back everything he said and try again, asking her to forget about what he said. She has dwelled on his mistakes and the things he said wrong. He says he is older now, so he is a different person, and won't make those mistakes again. He mentions that she made mistakes too, but she had people to turn to for support, whereas when he made mistakes there was no one to comfort him, being "all alone". | |
| The Raconteurs – Yellow Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The sun represents friendship. The darkness represents his love. "Waiting for the darkness now is all I can do" is him waiting for her to have feelings for him too. "The sun isn't hiding when it sets on you" means that he feels they can still be friends and take it to the next level at the same time. "And if the sun should follow us into your room then the courage will be robbed from me to tell you the truth" means if he tries to get intimate with her and she treats him just as a friend, he won't be able to reveal his true feelings. "And when I finally told you when the sun has gone, you're laughing 'cause I thought I was the only one" means he told her about his feelings and she's laughing because either she had feelings too or a lot of people have feelings for her. I guess I'm leaving the ending open to your interpretation. Did she turn him down saying that everyone has feelings for her at some point and they should continue with friendship, or by telling him that she has feelings for him too? |
