this song always brings a tear to my eye....not because its good or anything, because it shows that In Flames just isnt trying anymore. the "i feel like shit" part is screaming proof of this . I am a late bloomer, I started listening when "come clarity" came out and since I had no other way to go I started progressing backwards through their discography and I have found that their lyrics and melodies get more interesting the furthur back you go. I am hoping for, but do not expect, their next release to be of the Whoracle or Jester Race epic-ness that made me go from "eh these guys are ok" to "omg best band ever". |

the song is about coming to the point in your existence when you realize the vastness of eternity and you are understand that you, or your soul rather is going to be here forever. sort of an awakening i guess which can occour before or after ones death....hmmm when i think about it re-incarnation seems like a pretty good deal compared to dying and just chillin wherever it is that you beleive your soul will go lol. |

I absolutely love this song. I think it describes a highly advanced futuristic world, a technologically supported utopia. The lyrics "Biotronic test-worlds free of inscription" may allude to this society allowing the unhindered progression of science without the constraints of religious beliefs; bringing about an age of cloning leading to the creation of cyborgs ("with each and every attribute of animal, machine and man"). I imagine the medical field using cyborg replacements for injured body parts and organs at first but eventually the replacement of natural body parts, starting at birth, will be as common and accessible as getting a vaccine.
This world is considered to be flawless and promising ("more radiant than the sum of suns") with every aspect of its existence functioning "in cold ceremonial perfection". But in reality there is a fatal flaw in this society. I believe this flaw would be the suppression of human emotion as indicated by the lyrics “devoid of the echoes of man”. This suppression would be the “Dystopia Electro-Heart” or the center of the flaw in our seemingly perfect world that would eventually take “one final blow into the Ram of what is us”, which is what I perceive to be our emotions, which characterize our humanity. Once our humanity is stripped away and our society implodes on itself the impact at the bottom of our downward spiral “Will make the very notion of hell seem celestial in comparison”. There are indications that things are slowly headed to disaster but they are too small to be noticed in these exciting times of technological advancement “Installing awaiting the restoration of unsequenced chaos we’ve only seen the outlines of the beginning and this core, the slowly moving raptor”.
To me this song describes the world as being in sort of a “calm before the storm” state. For now life is peachy but irreversibly headed toward self induced cataclysm…….beautiful! |
