It sounds to me as though she is describing death and a journey the heaven. "close to home feeling so far away. As I walk there before me a shadow from another world, where no other can follow. carry me to my own, to where I can cross over..." Here it seems she is being led into the afterlife by a spiritual entity; the 'Shadow'. The next two lines for me are what help confirm my opinion. A 'world where no other can follow' clearly describes that heaven, or the afterlife, is a place where one cannot be followed, unless of course you are also deceased. "Where I can cross over." 'Crossing over' for me has always been a death related phrase; we talk of spirits and souls crossing over to the afterlife. Therefore, when I hear this line I see it as describing someone passing over from this world to the next. The rest of the song then follows in suite. "Memories I left behind." She is leaving behind everything she ever knew, and is hoping that she will not forget her previous life. A beautiful song :) |

I believe this certainly refers to the Columbine shooting, as some lines are adapted from what the shooters/victims said; "Father help me, save me a place by your side"-- A victim cried for God to help her after she had been shot and wounded pretty severely. "There is no God, Our creed is but for ourseleves"-- Not a line from the actual killers, but some victims were supposedly asked whether they believed in God which is why I think it refers to Religion so much. "Lust for fame, a deadly game" -- Referring perhaps the jocks and other popular atheletes who taunted both killers. 'a deadly game' could mean they were simply provoking the massacre further. "For whom the gun tolls"-- A pretty self-explanitory line; the victims were decided before they had a chance to react. "Survivors guilt, In us forevermore"-- The survivors of the massacre will live on, undoubtably feeling guilty for those who were killed. A pain worse than death. "15 candles"-- 15 people died. "4 Pink ones"-- Four girls killed. "9 Blue ones"-- Nine boys killed. "2 Black ones"-- Two killers killed. I do not believe the killers (Klebold & Harris) should be seen and remebered with an eye of contempt. Almost every emo/goth has felt the same way they did at one point or another and should certainly empathize with them instead of singling them out, despite how alike they are to us. It mightn't make sense seeing as both killers caused so much grief and pain for survivors and families, but hypocrisy is not acceptable in my views. |

This is an absolutely amazing song- by far my favourite on the album. I know and Amaranth is a legendary purple flower. In 'The land of daybreak' could mean some sort of Paradise or Heaven of which the Amaranth is hidden, however because it is legend, perhaps the Paradise doesn't exist? |
