I think hes talking about regretting the way his life has been. "I cursed the streets that run under my feet.." suggests he was probably really poor and living on the streets. He has all these burdens but all he really wants is to be remembered "I hope that I make a mark and stand strong even when Im gone." I see it as kind of a bitter reminiscing of his life and what it could have been. Idk for sure though. But it is a really beautiful song. |

I absolutly love this song, these guys are amazing. To me, the song is about a guy who cant figure out where to go in life and he cant find happiness but he isnt giving up even though deep down he believes that the world is gonna beat him anyway. Hes connecting singing with happiness and he doesnt want to talk about how great the world is and how happy others are or he thinks he'll just lose it. |

When I first read through the lyrics I didnt really like it much, I was a bit shocked that this deep ballad kinda singer was singing a song so harsh. But after listening to it and looking at the lyrics again I think that he is just expressing his anger towards this woman. It sounds like she was so lonley that now she just has no heart. She fucks whoever she wants, does drugs to make herself feel better and he cares about her. Shes bringing him down with her and he knows it. |

Wow, this song is so sad. I deffinetly agree that its about sexual abuse. I love that Damien Rice sings these beautiful (and often heartbreaking) songs that people can relate to. I personally dont relate to this song but someone else out there probably can. |

I feel like this song is about him wanting to end a relationship with this girl but shes in denial about their incompatability and he is too afriad to hurt her because shes emotionally weak ("First Im gonna make it, then im gonna break it till it falls apart. Hating all the fakin and shaking while im breakin your brittle heart"). So he continues to lie and say he loves her ("Shiver and say the words of every lie you've heard") even though he wants to be free from her and her baggage. To me the "dancing horses" symbolize his wanting to be free from her but "headless and alone" reminds him that he cant just pick up and leave. |
