The Flaming Lips – Plastic Jesus (The Goldcoast Singers cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
I didn't know of this song until I heard it from Paul Newman from the great movie "Cool Hand Luke". I actually heard the song before I saw the movie and loved it and then I saw the movie and of course in the scene in which he cries after the death of his mother brought so much more meaning to the song and its relevance in the movie and in that certain moment.

What I know is that it's not at all originally The Flaming Lips' song. It was written back in the 50's and is a folk song that has been rewritten and re-sung countless times by so many different people. According to Wikipedia: "Ed Rush and George Cromarty wrote the song in 1957 and recorded it (as a humorous ad spoof) in 1962 as The Goldcoast Singers" and "The authorship of the song has historically been incorrectly attributed to Ernie Marrs." And it's supposedly Ernie Marrs' version of the song that had been used for CHL. Then the Flaming Lips covered it, though I'm not sure if they changed any of the lyrics. I hope to hear other versions and any of the older less-rewritten ones.

Pearl Jam – Bugs Lyrics 17 years ago
I definitely like PJ10's view on this song the most. I always saw it as a song about the media and never literally about bugs or anything else. The whole Vitalogy album in my opinion has songs that are about the media and how the band's fame just didn't give them any privacy any more. This song does make me laugh too and I can't help but imagine sometimes that Eddie Vedder's in an empty room with nothing but a door and a window and he's with an accordion and all these cockroaches start entering the room from under the door. Though that image has nothing to do with what I think or know the song is about :P.

Pearl Jam – Not for You Lyrics 17 years ago
Hi all I'm new here and I've been wanting to comment on PJ's lyrics for a while now. It's always interesting to hear how others interpret Pearl Jam's songs. I definitely agree with most of you, the meaning of this song I think is pretty clear. richie8092, I'm happy you said that about the SNL performance! I thought the same and was wondering if it was only me thinking he seemed kind of angry and like he truly didn't want to be there and it does make sense why he wouldn't be in a very good mood considering that Kurt Cobain died that week...
