This song, to me, is about adultery. Likely about about Andy Hull and his wife. that's probably why he doesn't like talking about the song meanings on this album some lines that stood out: "And I bruise just like anyone would bruise" = I'm human and i make mistakes Chorus = the house they built is their relationship that fell after one (or both) parties cheated. "In time I swore I'd take the straight and narrow path but still won't I hold his ear I'm only trying to do my job tonight Kiss him on top his lips and crucify the fire" = sounds like he cheated while on tour and is trying to stay faithful but its hard, but at the same time shes cheating on him while hes gone "Never really feel the same never gonna be the same" = this ties in with the virgin title. the relationship was pure at first, but once they cheated once, the relationship will never be what it once was. let me know if you agree/disagree. but I'm sure I'm right lol great song... these guys are amazing, btw |

ive been listening to this over and over... another thing i found interesting is the line "I imply To mitigate the guilt, we could align A perfectly constructed alibi". hes saying that when he talks about the chance that there is no god hes only implying that idea so he doesnt feel so guilty about saying it. btw this is maybe one of their best songs |

| i think its about the belief in god and also the purpose of life. these are things that people feel are clearly defined. for most people their view is simple. to others the answer is more complex. that would also explain the video where small simple shapes come together to make complex structure... im sure this is a beautiful song about his girlfriend... yada yada yada... but whenever i hear this song i get a very sadistic and obsessive image in my head... ill try to visualize a video concept so you all can see what i mean... i see a girl that he likes, but donest like him back, so he kid naps her and keeps her chained down in a cage... and the open cage is just to tease her cause shes already chained down... all the while he is singing her a beautiful song as if they are in a loving relationship go back wit that image in your head and see if u look at the song in a different light oh yea... dont judge me! lol |
